While I won't be able to actually play *on* 11/11/11, I am intending to play a game "in celebration of" Solo Wargaming Day. Because of all the special "one's", I've christened the date Inter-Galactic Solo Wargaming Day (or IGSWgD because it's easier to say). It just seemed to need a more grandiose title. grin

Anyway, my committment is posted here, with a few starting pictures.

I will take up the solo challenge and whilst Herself and Herself the Younger are off at work and school that day, I'll run something.

A French and Indian attack on a fortified farm or stockade should do the trick.

Excellent!

Been working on some house rules, so may have to give them a bit more than a small playtest.

I'm sure its just me, but I try to avoid wargaming on November 11th. Just seems a bit "wrong" (but then I'm often accused of being over sensitive).

i will, of course be enagged in a decent (probably colonial) solo wargame on 1/1 :)

Since there is no school on Friday my daughter will probably insist any gaming includes her. But maybe after she has gone to bed I can get in a solo game.

@David, I understand your reasoning. I do mention that aspect on my blog, too. I will honor the veterans on that day, outside of gaming. In Real Life, gaming and war don't go together very well. Odd, then, that we call this wargaming.

I broke down my gameboard the other week, but a small game on the table I guess wouldn't be out of the question. Personally I don't see a problem with a game on Veterns Day.

What a better way to remember – and honor – on Veteran's Day what veterans have done than to play a historical scenario that you have researched out.

I'll be gaming solo that day too.

I can actually see both sides of the issue, and it doesn't bother me either to play a game on Veterans Day. I won't be home to play that day, so this year it's not an issue. Even so, I am cognizant of the possibility of offending those sensitive to the subject. I will be flying my flag, though!

Do we all get together or what?

epturner08 Nov 2011 10:20 p.m. PST

I am a veteran of Iraq and also served in peacekeeping in Bosnia. I'm getting ready for my 4th deployment. I have no problem separating playing with toy soldiers with what Uncle Sugar pays me to do in real time.

Then again, I play mostly 18th century stuff…

Well, if it's a truly a solo game, who's going to know?

In my case, I imagine the pirates and/or pirate hunters of olde would be thrilled at knowing their exploits will be relived by some in the future, though they might think playing with little men and ships to be a bit odd.

I have an unfinished WWII Normandy bocage game running on my game table. Started it and got busy with life and did not finish. Maybe I'll move the two paper plates with partly painted Iraqi Insurgents off the one end of the table and the printer paper box lid with 6 LCM landing craft off the other end. Then I can finish what I started. Here's hoping.

Time to bust out my cavalry and plains Indians!

I will be to busy preparing for the convention game we're running on Saturday, but I'll spend quite a bit of time during my commute planning an upcoming solo project.

I would play, but I can't find any opponents.

I went to hobby store to look for a devil/ dragon to play my suggestion a long while back to someone who wanted a colonial game of the Jersey Devil. Bought a devil something and can't figure out what it is, but in the pack a smaller lizard will work for me as well as being closer to 15mm. So my two 7YW regiments , and two battalions, a officer, a artillery battery and a farmer will do battle. PS I'm changing 1 – 60 figure ratio to 1 = 1

I, too, will be busy with preparing a convention game – though mine is not until March next. But it will take a TON of work to get ready. 15 mm game on 288 square feet of 'terrain.' Much of that terrain will be the sea, pirates.

Celebrated with 1914 Opening Moves (solitaire boardgame, Minden Games 2001). Excellent game, but only won marginal victory, which is the historical result, more like a loss.

The Jersey Devil took a few hits (2 bullets, 1 sword and a 1 bayonet) nothing fatal. On the other hand killed 3 men and wounded 10 out of 1 farmer (who dodged 2 attacks) 1 General (wounded) 20 Musketeers and 22 Grenadiers.

I played maybe 7 turns of a game in the days leading up to 11-11-11, and I figure it puts me at about the half-way point of the scenario, but then again I've been known to be wrong before. Anyhow, I've got the pics taken, I just have to throw them up on my blog. The Arabs have burst onto the table just as the French Foreign Legion made contact with the Professor they are to escort to safety. A link will follow once it's ready.

Thanks, everybody, for playing along. In a solo sort of way.

Celebrated by shopping the groovy sales at Cabela's on the 11/11/11th.

I cannot play solo games currently, as my bed is set up on my gaming table, to escape the wife's snoring….

I cut more than 200' of jigsaw cuts while cutting out islands – does it help that I'm a vet myself? : )
