I picked up the Warstore's entire stock at Fall-In (he had two left…) at $3.50 for a 1/100 tank.
Neal told me that they were from a strange "Axis and Allies" type game from Zvezda, in which the tanks are 1/100, the infantry and artillery are 1/72 and the planes are 1/144. Well, for my purposes, 2 out of 3 ain't bad! grin

Anyway, I took them home, and put one together last night. They are snap together. Translation: will fall apart in the middle of a game.
This plastic has a different "feel" to it, so I am asking here what glue people have used to assemble them, and what paint to use on them.
They do not "feel" like styrene, which is why I ask. I seem to have misplaced my mass spectrometer, or I would see for myself.
I don't want to use a glue that won't hold, or a paint that won't stick, even if they were only $3.50 USD.

They look quite nice when assembled, and I am looking forward to the FoW Barbarosa books, particularly if they keep the "human wave" rules. Zombie undeade BT-5s? Cool.
Even if not, it will be nice to carry a tray of Soviet tanks to my gaming table without needing a pallet jack.

John,

I have a bunch of the PzIIIs and PzIIs. The plastic used is ABS, not styrene, so regular styrene cement will probably not work. Instead, use cement designed for ABS plastic, or is compatable. PLastruct Plastic Weld (should be available at better hobby stores) will work fine. It's compatable with ABS, and a few years ago I built an early Trumpeter Type 85-II Chinese MBT using it, and that was known to be ABS.

For painting, I used a rattle can of Testors Panzer Grey, worked perfectly fine. I've also airbrushed Tamiya acrylics over it, and worked fine too.

Damon.

ABS? OK. I can handle ABS. It was so slick, I was afraid it was polypropylene! grin
We used to make holding fixtures out of propylene because few adhesives stuck to it.

I have used regular Revell polystyrene cement- the liquid variety with pretty perfect results.

It's nice model – here's mine:

It keeps together well, even without any glue.

I used GW plastic glue and it worked just fine on the Panzer IIs and ZIS 5 trucks I did. They snap together pretty solid that they probably wouldnt fall apart in a game.

For paint I used army painter primer. BF german armor spray paint for the panzer II base color and vallejo model air russian green for the truck base color. All other paints were vallejo model colors. They look great painted up and do not look like $3.50 toys.

Used regular Testor's glue with great results.

Testors worked for mine as well.

The Zvezda BT5 is cool kit,

I used vallejo paints over a black coat and model glue (Revell), so here's mine :)

Cheers.

I have just finished assembling two as well and 7 of the T-26s, 3 of the T-34s and 1 Opel truck.

For the BT-5 I used a thin line of super glue at back and front. I followed this with a little more super glue on the front. Allowed to set for about 15 minutes and then filed the front section. Got rid of that nasty seam there nicely and also reinforces the model. I also used the super glue trick for the front plate of the T-26s. The plastic used doesnt file all that well but the super glue certainly does!

For paint I primed with the brown from the Krylon Camo range and then used a flat brush to paint with Vallejo #894 Russian Green. The brown serves as a nice pre-shade and using the flat brush I miss some of the recesses and detail around items which leads to a nice shading effect.
