BLEND!!!!!!!!!!!!! Uxbridge

Normally I don't like cheering… but there's always a time to cut cards with the Devil.

Wellington

Never interrupt an enemy when he's making a mistake, that's bad manners, eh?

Napoleon.

All errors in the above quotations are entirely mine, and any resemblance with any real person, living or dead, is entirely coincidental.

"Listen to me, Ney.
If there's anything I despise, it's ingratitude"….

"Oh, Ney. The throne? Do you know what the throne is?
It's an overdecorated piece of furniture.
It's what's behind the throne that counts.
My brains, my ambitions, my desires, my hope, my imagination.
And above all my will.
I can't believe my ears.
You stand there waving a piece of paper crying: "Abdicate, abdicate!"

I will not! I will not! not! not! not!

"Soldiers of my old guard, I have come to say goodbye!"

Stavka02 Nov 2011 7:16 a.m. PST

"I am France and France is Me!"

Clearly a Type A personality.

Some good lines in Waterloo, but I'd have to say that unlike Casablanca, the whole is considerably less than the sum of its parts. When all is said and done I find Casablanca a lot more entertaining as a moviegoing experience.

And Casablanca didn't result in its investors losing their shirts, either.

Stavka02 Nov 2011 7:22 a.m. PST

All this reminds me, does anyone know whatever became of that fellow (JC or some similar initials?) who a few years back had a blog featuring his painted 28mm figures from the Waterloo campaign, and who at one point stated his (apparently serious) intention of raising the money to produce another movie on Waterloo?

Maxshadow02 Nov 2011 7:41 a.m. PST

" who's the lad with the hooky nose?"

Old Bear02 Nov 2011 10:57 a.m. PST

Old Bear what is your problem?

As the old saying goes MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS.

I've seen this movie more times than you I think where I can sometimes do whole scenes from memory.

Gideon, you are one strange bloke. Obviously you don't think so but being as you don't even spot the great big wink telling you it's harmless teasing I fear you are a lost cause.

1234567802 Nov 2011 1:52 p.m. PST

Gideon, sit down in a dark room with a glass of decent red wine (or whatever your poison is), tune out for a while, rebalance your mind, and then say the following to yourself 100 times:

"I will communicate with other humans in a socially acceptable manner."

I am sure that you are a really nice guy but you really do need to stop the aggression and learn to go with the flow of the forum.

huevans01102 Nov 2011 2:00 p.m. PST

" who's the lad with the hooky nose?"

"Who's the boy what leathered the French??!!"

"Who makes the Parlay-Voo to run??!!"

"Nosey! Nosey!"

Captain Gideon02 Nov 2011 2:39 p.m. PST

First off Old Bear I'm NOT a lost cause and I did not miss the big wink that you posted there,I'm just saying I'll post what I post.

But the BIG thing here is if you don't like what I post you(and other's) can simply STOP responding to what I write,or stifle me and you won't have to see what I post and it won't hurt your sensitive eyes.

Now Colin first off I don't drink wine or any other thing that would get you drunk.

Second I don't need to write "I will communicate with other humans in a socially acceptable manner",I do that many times a month and everyone has a good time with me.

And as I said before you don't know me and don't know how I think or feel,so stop that.

In fact I'm having some GOOD friends over in a few weeks and do a FASA Star Trek game, and have a GREAT time which we've done several times.

What aggression are you talking about?

And when you say go with the flow of this forum does this mean that you want me to go along with whatever is said on this group and don't rock the boat?

Because if that's what you're saying then forget it I'll continue with what I'm doing, which means that I'm going to speak my mind even if it conflicts with others on this forum.

Captain Gideon

1234567802 Nov 2011 2:55 p.m. PST

Gideon,

I think you just demonstrated my point.

Have a nice time with your Star Trek game:).

Captain Gideon02 Nov 2011 2:58 p.m. PST

I did forget one thing Colin that you and others have now ruined this topic for me,I'm going to stop posting here so you don't have to respond to me anymore.

I'll continue to post on other forums here on TMP but it just seems that I can't post anything Napoleonic because of you and others,so thanks much for ruining my time here.

All from a simple question of one's favorite scene from a movie…

The course of TMP does take odd paths.

All from a simple question of one's favorite scene from a movie…

The course of TMP does take odd paths.

I thought they were quoting from the film.

Mollinary03 Nov 2011 2:07 a.m. PST

Ponsonby, having related how his father was killed by the French when his horse got bogged down, and after Uxbridge had commiserated with him for his bad luck, Ponsonby replies:

"Yes, particularly bad luck, he had 400 better horses in his stables at Hatton!"

Mollinary

Supercilius Maximus03 Nov 2011 2:38 a.m. PST

Ponsonby's father was a politician who died at his London home of natural causes. The Wikipedia site for the film actually mentions this under trivia/errors.

Old Bear03 Nov 2011 5:24 a.m. PST

Hi Guys if you are interested in Waterloo and you do not like all this squabling , there is a great site on Facebook called project Hougoumont. It has loads of interesting discussions about Waterloo. John Franklin has posted a link earlier in the week. Oh heres a toast " Todays Fox "

Captain Gideon03 Nov 2011 8:40 a.m. PST

I'm going to make an exception to not posting here but I must respond to Matt on his post.

Matt now you're getting personnal and you did'nt have to go this route, and frankly you NEVER should've posted your crap because I feel that you've crossed the line.

So Matt I'm going to say this and I truly mean it you can go to HELL.

Captain Gideon

Mollinary03 Nov 2011 12:31 p.m. PST

Supercilius,

And your point is? I still think it is a great quote!

Mollinary

PS. And so is "If Boney kicked the Prussians in
the arse, why are we doing all the running?"

Clovis Sangrail03 Nov 2011 12:35 p.m. PST

One thing you should never do is watch "A Fistfull of Dynamite" ("Duck You Sucker") and then watch "Waterloo" – you will have a job getting rid of the image as Napoleon as a chicken thief out of you mind. ;-)

1815Guy03 Nov 2011 3:33 p.m. PST

"Favorite quote: "Does Wellington have nothing else to offer than these barbarians"

(actually, 'Amazons' to be pedantic!)

I did enjoy the Uxbridge interchanges, but kept expecting to see Bergerac turn up at any moment……

Old Bear04 Nov 2011 9:26 a.m. PST

Gentlemen, gentlemen I feel confident that once The Captain has at last had sex you will doubtless find him a much more agreeable correspondent.

Matt, the addition of the word 'with' at one spot in your post would have made that truly scary. wink

1234567804 Nov 2011 10:07 a.m. PST

ROFLMAO :))

Old Bear04 Nov 2011 10:10 a.m. PST

Captain Gideon04 Nov 2011 10:19 a.m. PST

So I take it Old Bear and Colin that you both approve of what Matt said?

If the answer is yes then you don't care about crossing the line and getting personnel either do you?

Captain Gideon

1234567804 Nov 2011 10:30 a.m. PST

I mildly disapprove of Matt's original comment, despite it being amusing, but Old Bear's comment was priceless.

You really do need to get over yourself somewhat.

Anyway, I thought that you were not posting here any more.

Captain Gideon04 Nov 2011 10:41 a.m. PST

Colin I posted because of what Matt said and I could'nt let that go without a response,if Matt had not posted what he did then I would'nt have bothered.

But since you've said that you mildly disappoved of Matt's comment, but you found it amusing.

That being said what if someone had said that about you and what would you think of it.

I truly fealt that he crossed the line and got personnel so that's why I responded.

So that being said it seems that people are laughing at my expense, and that should'nt be.

And you can blame Matt for me posting here.

Captain Gideon

1234567804 Nov 2011 10:57 a.m. PST

I would have been amused if someone had said it about me; I would certainly not been upset.

As to why people laugh at your expense…well, you are a funny guy:).

Captain Gideon04 Nov 2011 2:10 p.m. PST

Well Colin your sense of humor and my sense of humor are different.

I have a great sense of humor but what Matt said was NOT funny.

I feel that Matt crossed the line and got personnel and I take it as an insult, and I won't let that pass.

Captain Gideon

Enry MItchell04 Nov 2011 2:26 p.m. PST

Captain Gideon
Do you have anything else to do?

Old Bear04 Nov 2011 4:02 p.m. PST

So that being said it seems that people are laughing at my expense, and that should'nt be.

No matter how much effort Matt puts in he's going to find it hard to trump your own work.

Well Colin your sense of humor and my sense of humor are different.

Only by virtue of the fact that Colin's actually exists.

Captain Gideon04 Nov 2011 4:26 p.m. PST

First off Enry I have many other things I do but it's none of your business.

And Old Bear when you said "Only by virtue of the fact that Colin's actually exists",so are you saying that I don't have a sense of humor?

Because if you are then you're lying simply put you don't know me so how in the hell would you know?

Captain Gideon

ghost0204 Nov 2011 6:21 p.m. PST

A person can tell a lot by how they write. Aggressive and depressed people tend to write short, curt, sentences displaying a lack of empathy or concern for others.

Also, one does not help one's cause by proving another's view correct. A pot calling the kettle black I suppose.

Finally, your baiting the trolls Gideon. If you stop, they will. A fight to the last comment helps no-one.

Captain Gideon04 Nov 2011 6:45 p.m. PST

ghost02 I'll take your very good advice and stop posting as I need to do other things,so thanks again ghost02.

Maxshadow04 Nov 2011 10:54 p.m. PST

ha ha This fight wasn't funny when it started but got progresivly so as the posts went on. :oP

raducci04 Nov 2011 11:03 p.m. PST

The last minutes of the film, as the Prussians arrive.
You can see Peter Hofschroer in the background muttering, "See? I told you so."

Old Bear05 Nov 2011 1:56 a.m. PST

And Old Bear when you said "Only by virtue of the fact that Colin's actually exists",so are you saying that I don't have a sense of humor?

Yes. That would be my considered opinion.

Because if you are then you're lying simply put you don't know me so how in the hell would you know?

Call it an educated guess.

Interesting & fun thread spoiled somewhat by insensitive and senseless bickering.

I thought it was a mildly interesting thread VASTLY enhanced by the senseless bickering.

And the subject matter reminds me of one of those clowns with his mouth open, how could you not lob a few balls in there?

After all, if you arent into senseless bickering, why are you doing Napoleonics?
