One of the things that strikes me is the lack of female looking combat droids. EM4 minis has a 25mm cyborg, and there are some quite nice cyber babes in Void, but I've never seen a female styled war robot. Ok, if they were terminator sized they'd end up looking like a Sumo wrestler or Pat Butcher off Eastenders, but even still I'd like to see more killer robot babes.

Thoughts anyone?

Crooked Dice Femdroids? That's the best I can do for now…. wink

Not exactly a combat robot but Reaper's new She-Bot might work. Maybe she knows some robo-martial arts moves. However that left hand looks like she could easily be holding a pistol.

Excalibur's Eve is a bit more of a Borg Queen cyborg.

Ellen and Vallerian Burmont might also be a bit cyborgish. I used Ellen as a Cybertronic Heroine for Warzone.

Here's their RoboNurse

and Cyborg 8 is clearly female and combative.

Megaminis has Seniorita Silicone as part of the Shockforce Deadtech line.

Like this?

I guess as I've always viewed robots as lacking a gender, the thought never crossed my mind for the need for male or female robots.

Thomas Whitten27 Oct 2011 6:29 a.m. PST

These are all great robots and/or warbots and to me they are all androgynous.

I guess I want to see some mechanical valkierie armed with hugs chainguns like something Sorayama would design but armed to the teeth and twice as deadly. There may be an element of fetish to this….

mechanical valkierie armed with hugs chainguns

ok, that would be cool.

Space Aardvark27 Oct 2011 6:46 a.m. PST

Thomas, the cleaning robot is certainly female. Most of the others have a very masculine look about them, especailly the robot cop.

For Torchwood's Cyberwoman there was a really nice model in clay. She looked sexy and scary at the same time, and all machine. I imagine an all female gang would have one.

If I recall there was a female centaur figure for Legions of Steel, though the drawing was far, far better than the actaul miniature. I'm reading the ABC warriors Chaos book at the moment and they have Morigan who is very female and glamourous and very, very dangerous.

Check the Infinity line, Aleph to be specific.

And a few others, like the Marut and the Tacbots.

Boobs are so useful on a robot.

CmdrKiley27 Oct 2011 6:51 a.m. PST

How about the Yu Jing Karakuir?

picture

How about just using some female figures in full combat armor? Infinity has a lot of figures like that. Many of whom are carrying very heavy weapons and even have some valkyrie-like helmets (considering the funky rabbit ear antenna).

Num, Num, Num, some of those are very nice! Boobs are very useful on a robot, its all down to the balance ya know…

I'd like a hug from a valkirie robot, hugs are nice.

Karakuri is very cool.

There is no shame in thinking the Svedka Vodka robot is hot…

For my terminator game I painted my Arnold terminator with some combat damage. He was just a basic figure but I painted some combat wounds on him to get across the point that he was not human.

"Boobs are so useful on a robot."

So not a fan of Cherry 2000 then, eh John?

billthecat27 Oct 2011 10:22 a.m. PST

Robo-boobs? Really?

Buff Orpington27 Oct 2011 10:41 a.m. PST

If they're so useful why stop at 2?

Wolfprophet27 Oct 2011 2:33 p.m. PST

Eh. Don't see a lot of point to assigning a gender to a robot….. an android however… much more important. Robots just fix things. Androids are expected to interact with humans more often. They actually had this discussion in an anime as I recall… Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. As the Tachikoma robots became more sentient, they started discussing sentience and what it is to be alive and touched on the topic of human comfort related to looks of machines in the working environment.

Here she is, the original Robot Woman fetishoid :

Does seem kind of pointless unless you mean "machine people" more than robots; although if the robot was a living characters servant they could have it built as a female shape, for cosmetic purposes; or if it was meant to be a disguise, it could be a spy disguised as a biomechanically enhanced [insert sentient species] but is really a robot.
This could also happen if the robots formed their own faction in the game world but still think like machines so have a limited capacity to evolve their descendant designs from their original servant days when they may have been designed to look reminiscent of maids and butlers made of plastic. So they would end up looking more like Kryten with a bazookoid.
If they were more purpose designed for combat they would be so vastly different from a hominid structure giving them a gender shape is absurd, even if they do happen to be modelled on living things, or amalgams of living things.
As far as boobs go, they are neccessary for the same reasons bikini and leotard costumes are required on girls who hold umbrellas over the heads of drivers on a starting grid trying to make racing look interesting. It would be rather pointless having an androgynous robot, rather than a female shaped one, as a race queen for a droid racing team in Buggybash.

chironex27 Oct 2011 3:17 p.m. PST

Which would make the umbrella rather silly if the droid driver happened to be charged by a solar collector on his head.

Zephyr127 Oct 2011 3:17 p.m. PST

Boobs are so useful on a robot.

Well, it is a convenient place to put oil cans…. ;-)

Those are nanomachine mass reserves… Haven't you read Cannon God Exxaxion?

Pictors Studio27 Oct 2011 6:22 p.m. PST

Strangely enough some of the first robots that are designed to look like people may end up being female.

I came here to point out all the Infinity stuff.

Mako1128 Oct 2011 9:19 a.m. PST

Well, the aesthetics of them are certainly nicer, which is a good enough reason for me…..

Space Aardvark28 Oct 2011 5:31 p.m. PST

I just find the idea of a mecha female who can kick butt really appealing. It just occurred to me that most combat droids are very male/macho, and a gorgeous, powerful looking robot babe would be so cool. Maybe a warrior woman downloads her conciousness into a female styled body before dying.

Space Aardvark28 Oct 2011 5:35 p.m. PST

I could watch Bjork's 'All is full of love' music vid over and over, so beautiful.

One of my artist friends once introduced me thusly; 'This is Nick, he does Cyborgs' she meant I paint cyborgs but the implication of certain activities with female mechanoids was good for a laff for ages!

badger2228 Oct 2011 8:08 p.m. PST

Are you also going to make your female robot moody and angry part of the time?

Space Aardvark29 Oct 2011 7:26 a.m. PST

Oh, yes! She would have times when she was impossible to talk to and bites off a male's head if he doesn't bring her chocolate NOW! NOW! NOW!

I'm with artist Steve Stone where he says some thing like that male images of warriors have been done to death, but a beautiful female who can kick butt has so much potential. Besides, who would you prefer to spend time looking at Erin or John Cryton….. Gawd do I have a serious thing for Claudia Black!

Sargonarhes29 Oct 2011 12:03 p.m. PST

Heck yeah. Even Gundam has this topic covered.

You know, Ghost in the Shell actually had a short scene about this… Batou (the big thug of the group) asked the Major when she was going to go to a male chassis for more horsepower. They get ready to fight, and then the Major smiles at Batou. Then she hacks his body and punches him out with his OWN hand. Her parting comment was something to the effect of 'as long as people continue to underestimate a female body, it gives me all the power I need.'

chromedog30 Oct 2011 11:13 p.m. PST

Morrigun from 2000AD's "ABC Warriors: Khronicles of Khaos" was a decent looking 'gynoid'.

There will shortly be a box of three of the infinity Karakuri released also.

Space Aardvark31 Oct 2011 4:36 a.m. PST

Artraccoon, I love those cute Manga robot babes, really kick-ass and sweet.

Mr Lion, I see your point about underestimation of the female form, look at Alita Battle Angel, she really delivers on the wuppin'!
