Wow! Outstanding quality. It is now the background image on my computer. But why (!!!!!!!!) did he paint late 1500's armour on the officers for a battle in the 1640's??!! |

Because his main inspiration is clearly the Alatriste movie rather than the actual event as far as the apperance of the soldiers go. And Alatriste used a ton of left over renaissance props from other movies made in Spain. For example much, perhaps even most, of the cavalry equipment in the final battle scene is from the 1970's movie "Cromwell". So you get a odd mix of gear such as 17th cenutry cuirassier armour worn with burgonets and so on. |
