Despite crappy previews "Three Musketeers" film was surprisingly good. Very lavish sets filmed on locations in German castles, historical looking clothes and military miniatures.

Swordplay was done very well, no flying in the air and kung fu. The only person who did flying was Milla, but I felt that was homage to her zombie films.

There are some anachronisms in clothing and equipment, but that was only noticed by "Experts" :) Some "modern" twists of the story was actually fun and not overdone. Good pacing and lots of possibilities for scenarios.

If you liked original "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Knight's tale" and even 1970's "Musketeers" you will like this one.

Was it in 3D? I mean, do you have to watch it with glasses? Dean

2D. No reason to watch it in 3D.

Good to hear. The trailers looked like good, stupid fun (though Hollywood can usually only manage to get the 'stupid' part right), and I was hopeful I could drag the wife to see it. She still owes me one for "The Happening".

Like I really need more of an excuse to pick up Ganesha's 'Flashing Blades' rules.

the trailers show giant flying boats! Anachronisms are not something to worry about at that point…

Flying boats explained "historically" in the beginning of the film, not to worry.

Dynaman878923 Oct 2011 11:39 a.m. PST

I'm not worried about the flying boats, but saying a film that has them is anachronistic is just silly. It's like saying Inglorious Bastards had the Nazi uniforms wrong (if it did)

Thanks, Igor; I read somewhere it was 3D and that was the main reason I didn't want to see it (I'd get dizzy & nauseous). Plus I have some free AMC theater passes! Best, Dean

I can live with the film, it's just a bit of popcorn fun, but it is a sad age if the original work is deemed so boring, it needs all this dressing up to have any appeal. Like a good singer won't be listened to unless she dresses like Lady Gaga …

The trailers made it look like a Chinese kung fu movie. Not interested.

If they had changed the names and some historical points, it would have been a fun fantasy romp and I would have loved it. As it stands it is an insult to Dumas' books and I'll have no truck with this film. Too bad.

My wife and I saw it today (in 2D, 3D would be a waste) and it was fun fluff.

The flying ships were a needless addition that added greatly to the special effects budget without gaining the movie anything.

Thanks, my wife wants to see it, and fun fluff is all we are after in the movie. Since I'm already consigned to the fact it has no relation to the book, other then title, that does not bother me…

I saw it in 3D but it really didn't need to be put in that format. The scenery is great, especially the palaces, the costuming gorgeous and it even had some miniature soldiers in it!
I loved the Lester films but this was a fun way to spend a couple hours. Lots of humor and swordfighting, brawling. The plot was basically the Dumas one only dressed up with gimmicks like flying ships and revolving cannon. I had no problem with it, I just wanted a fun movie and it met that criterion for me.
