I found this HO scale kit at a resale shop…

…and with some modification turned it into some thing more suited for 28mm wargames.

It's big enough to drive a tank through…

…and has a usable interior, second floor and roof.

Used it in a game of Warengine this Thursday and it might feature prominently in our upcoming Post-Halloween Zombie game.

More and better pics (clickable for crisp, beautiful viewing) and a resonably informative how-to at the Chicago Skirmish Wargames blog:

Very cool, bargainous price too!

Glad to see you finished it… Now I need to get back to work on mine…

Thanks folks,

Dropzonetoe,
Yes you do! Necromundicon gave the the inspiration to buy the project, but your comparison shot here:

actually got me off my butt to start in on it.

If you like the color scheme I used, the basic brick is just sprayed with ruddy brown primer and drybrushed tan. Super easy! For the "repaired" sections, it's just a bit of plaster I smeared on when plastering the floor (before any painting) with a bit of gray drybrushed before the tan.

Ditto,
Thanks. The track groves and service trenches were already part of the supplied base. It was intended to have three tracks running into/through it. I just plastered over the track grooves and put grating over the trenches.

Yea my to-do list is longer than my time right now. How stable is the 2nd floor? The plastic mesh isn't that strong on its own?

ordinarybass23 Oct 2011 5:08 p.m. PST

The floor is quite stable. The supports are about 3 inches apart and stick out 1 to 1.5 inches while supporting flooring that's about 2-3 inches wide.

That and some superglue seems to be holding up just fine. I think part of the sturdyness is also due to the fact that it's one contiguous piece of mesh rather than separate sections.

Really well done!
