Privateersmen and piraticals, periodically, I visit YouTube to hear Stan Rogers power through "Barrett's Privateers." He died 28 years ago. The loss was fell. The shanty is unforgetable. YouTube link |

I always loved that song. And according to some reports, Stan died while helping fellow passengers escape a burning aircraft. (see Air Canada flight 797) |

I've sung that song along with a bar full of people on Privateer's Wharf in Halifax, it was an awesome experience. So awesome, I went back to the bar three more nights in a row! For a different form of Stan Rogers' privateering, check out "Wreck of the Athens Queen". |

YouTube link Barrett's Privateers by Stan Rogers is classic. The cover by Alestorm cracks me up, if only because I find the idea of Pirate Metal music hilarious. (and it isn't a bad cover) |

Excellent song. The Pirate band I sing with always include that in our First Set. What a songwriter, what a loss. Eric |
