Has anyone bought any of these? How do they match up to 28mm for gaming? |

I had a lot of the cars and vans for my 25mm Roaring Twenties game . They went well with Grenadier and Ral Partha CoC figures . Trouble is , Lledo make them to fit the box . So larger trucks and buses tend to be 1/76ish to appeal to the Model Railway crowd . |

I have tons of the Matchbox "Models of Yesteryear". I'm not sure if these are the same as "Lledo". Anyway, if they are the same, the 1918 Crossley truck is great to use for 28mm scale transport vehicles in WWI. Also, the 1914 Prince Henry Vauxhall is perfect for a British staff car. You can do searches for these vehicles on e-bay for "crossley" and "prince henry vauxhall". They usually sell for only a few dollars. There is a yahoo group called Trench Wars (TW_WWI) that has a folder in the photo section that shows a lot of these vehicles repainted and with 28mm WWI figures next to them so you can get an idea of how well they work. |

We use Lledo's 'Days Gone' series for our turn-of-the century games. The fit is OK for most 25's, but a bit 'small' for the robust 28's. I believe the scale Lledo achieved was actually 1/72, although as someone pointed out, there are a few which are really 1/76. |

Many of Lledo's "Days Gone" range are about 1/60th scale, which is perfect for 28mm. As previously pointed out, the busses are UNDER 1/72nd. Matchbox models of yesteryear are mostly 1/43rd, which SHOULD be much too large. However, the previously mentioned crossleys (I have five) though technically overscale, look just perfect, somehow, with the '28s. |

Oh, a tip for buying crossleys and other matchbox on ebay. Don't bid immediately, do some learning first. Some of the "logo variants" of the Crossley are much more common than other more rare variants. Go check out the completed auctions for matchbox crossley and figure out which logo variants are the cheap ones. Go back to the active auctions and bid on those. I paid under $7 apiece for my Crossleys, including shipping. Some rare ones auction for $25. |

I have a number of Lledo and Matchbox models for 1920s _Call of Cthulhu_. CoC figures tend to be 28mm ( larger than true 25mm ) . I find that the Lledo cars, like the 1920s Model A convertible police car and the Model Ts work just fine. The Matchbox cars can be a little over sized, but I've had a lot of luck with them, particularly with their larger trucks. chicklewis makes an _excellent_ point: go for the common vehicles if all you're going to do is repaint them anyway. A note about scale. If you check the scale page here on TMP ( at TMP link ) you'll see that 28mm figures should be about 1/58 scale. Lledo is often said to be anywhere from 1/43 to 1/60 scale. They work quite well, and are probably a true 1/60 scale. If you look online and see cars like Hot Wheels cars listed at 1/63 scale, stay away. They are _way_ too small, in spite of what the scale says. Likewise, the Matchbox cars are often listed as 1/43 scale but they fit rather well with 28mm figures. On the other hand, the Solido line of 1/43 vehicles, with only a very few minor exceptions, are too big. |
