Does anyone have suggestions for modelling tarps and awnings for 15mm vehicles, spread out out or unfurled so to speak, rather than rolled?

Tissue Paper/Paper Towel/thick paper with PVA glue
green stuff rolled thin with a roller

Tissue paper will work.

Plain paper will as well, but you'll need to fold, spindle, and mutilate it a bit to get it to soften up. Might be better for tarps that are spread out.

Cheers, I was thinking about tissue paper soaked with PVA, but I thought I might be having a stupid moment.

I use fine weave gauze bandages soaked in PVA glue.

Also, tea bags make great camo netting. Spread it and glue it down where you want it, then sprinkle the crushed tea leaves over it while the glue is still wet.

I did try the tea bag trick, sans teas leaves, some years back, but it didn't look very good. Though being parsimonious I do use reclaimed used tea leaves as coarse scatter…

Lead foil, the sort that comes around the neck of wine bottles is ideal. Failing that, some of the heavier (ie stiffer) grades of alumin(i)um foil will do – the sort used to seal cans of instant coffee.
