A month ago I posted this: TMP link Well, I said I'd continue to make a second one and I lived up to that: I have finished a second piece. The whole set is here: link A few highlights:
Now tomorrow (or later this week) I'll try and seal it with Dull Cote – glue sealing works on the foliage but makes the grass and tea flock so dark that it looks crap. Tips, suggestions, comments, critiques, criticisms and the like all welcome. Just let me know your thoughts and I'll use them to make the next one better. M. |

That looks great – a wonderful combo of portability and appearance. |

Looks great! I like the added root structure, and the spackle on the trunks. Makes the "trees" look a lot more realistic. I'll have to give that a try. You might just add in some loose twigs and foam, especially around the edges, to represent downed trees and small bushes, or scrub. Keeping them loose will permit you to move them out of the way of your troops, if you need to do that. |

Thanks for the responses guys! Vosper – agreed; these stack up fairly easily. Only down side is the base is foam and thus requires a little care – can't simply flop it in a box (which is bad anyway since it doesn't display one's pieces!) Mako – I thought about doing that – little "tokens" of foliage to place there and about. They'd be based on pennies and smaller washers than that tank/dimog is. If you guys browse though the Flickr and read the descriptions, you'll find small bits of humor / info within. The original design plan called for more empty trunks, but I don't know what happened to that (there are 3 on this piece). The two in the large grove were supposed to have some twigs representing fallen trees, but again that just didn't happen – I think I figured it would interfere with larger based items. Fun fact: The base of that thing was roughed out with a combat knife. M. |
