So anybody got any ideas or sources for figures suitable or convertible to be Not-Jedi? I am considering going with Samurai figures. For some reason a "Light-Naginata" is appealing to me this weekend. |
28mmMan | 15 Oct 2011 11:21 p.m. PST |
Funny, yet again we are of like minds
I have always like the longer handled blades though I do tend to prefer a near equal blade to handle ratio in a real sword
Most naginatas are more 5' x 3', handle to blade. ***** As for miniatures, I am assuming human (although most Star Wars aliens are easy enough to modify :) peter pig
Eureka also has a line though they are more armored. |

Not in 15mm but just tonight I was looking at about 100 Samurai sites looking at maybe converting my Star Wars Figures to Samurai by adding Sashimono to them for some futuristic battle. VR James Mattes |

Eureka have a couple of Samurai mages in their 15/18mm Samurai range which make nice Jedi |

You have to consider balance. Most edged weapons do not get it. They are too heavy, and based on attacking types of armour of the past generation. In the renaissance there was a move to a more dagger type weapon after that the Saber became the norm. Weapons, tactics, techniques, and procedures developed in response. I was in Panama and some Dingbat tried to stab me in the head because he knew I had a protective vest and helmet. He cut me at the left hear and I was so ed off I pulled out a 45 and shot him dead. What soldiers will carry in the future is hard to say. Weapons are developed to face the threat. Current design of Helmets is to meet the IED threat and traumatic brain injury. But you lose a lot of your auditory and sensory perception of the immediate surroundings. YMMV. When I first joined the Army the tactics were one handed shooting of pistols, that changed early in my time back to two handed. Some time later they deveoped shields for police and para-military doing dymatic entry. Shields had been out of vogue for centuries but made a comeback in riot control and police tactics around the late 70s. Now the Army wants to go back to a ball plate and ballistic unerwear. How much is too much weight? Age old questions that we will never know until we try and fail. VR James Mattes |

I think I'd just go with the Micromachines ones. However, warrior monks, or samurai shouldn't be too hard to convert, by adding longer cloaks with green stuff, if desired. Heck, you could even forgo conversion (other than the light sabers), and just say it is a different period than depicted in the movies, and the fashion style of dress changed. That's probably the easiest solution of all. |
infojunky | 16 Oct 2011 3:09 p.m. PST |
Did Micro Machines even cover episodes 1 – 3? But that really is a moot point as they are mostly OOP. Gunner I forgot that list. I have quite a few of those figures from a HoTT army project. |

What soldiers will carry in the future is hard to say. Weapons are developed to face the threat. We're talking Jedi and lightsabers. Realism isn't the goal here. |

Hokey religions and ancient weapons
And I figure that getting the colors about right on 15s will be good enough for most players. |

"What's that?" "I think it's a carrying unit for a holocron, but it seems to be made from the skin of sentients
and the 'cron bed is lined with is that Ewok fur?" |
28mmMan | 21 Oct 2011 11:42 a.m. PST |
baby Ewok fur, it's much softer
|
infojunky | 22 Oct 2011 2:59 a.m. PST |
Not that explains Ewoks
. Fur bearing animals bred for agression so people won't become attached to them

Reminds one of the tales following the Dark Jedi Weeahj (we ah)
the Terror of Naboo, where the diminutive yet evil tainted Ewok Sith jedi assassin slaughtered thousands of Gungan
his innate fear of water is the only thing that kept him out of their cities. Later the vile Weeahj, which in Ewokian means hand of Kietha or death, returned to Endor. Before he disappeared into the deep forest he wiped out an outpost of empire troopers, scientists, and officers
making hide scarecrows with their skins
Ah yes Dark Weeahj, bane of Gungans, Ewoks, and Humans alike
it was his appetite for baby Ewok kidneys that made him return to Endor
what a crazy little bastard. He will be missed. |

Ok
how about looking at odd figures in 15mm that if not ready to go are easily converted into Jedi? Khurasan Miniatures for example
I was on his site just a minute ago
(the Lllurg Chief
cover the jubblies and perhaps drop the blaster or leave it and call it a dark/Sith jedi?
(fourth from left to right
modify gun into your long handled light saber)
(any of these three could easily be modified)
(the second in this line up could be converted
if you like this humor element)
(if so inclined these could also be modified
the first being dark I would guess)

Why do I think we may have started something dark and wonderful here. Was sitting here pondering special powers granted to Jedi Followers of certain Eldar Gods
.. Only the heretical Sith follow a "Unified" theory of the force
.. |
28mmMan | 23 Oct 2011 12:00 a.m. PST |
I like the idea of Old Ones granting dark powers to their followers
maybe all the powers are of old ones but how it is used and if certain powers are used
the humanity is sucked out and replaced with something else
something called the Sith. |
infojunky | 23 Oct 2011 5:59 a.m. PST |
I think I like yours even better. It leaves room for Good and evil plus servants of dark gods
is this how the Boys at GW got started all those years ago? But to be honest I am less about the powers and more about the wandering Martial Arts s who wander the rim with their glowy swords
. To quote Barry Ween "Every Schmuck in this Mega-Sector has one since the prequels came out"
. One meaning Light sword
.. |
28mmMan | 23 Oct 2011 1:12 p.m. PST |
I was thinking that Avatar the Last Airbender (TV show not that abomination of a movie) sort of thing with the force elements being incorporate into the martial arts. The light sabres being an extension of the focus within. So a very focused jedi could in theory cut through a less focused jedi's blade. Also like some of the anime ninja media we see a force blade being formed without material
this might be an application worth note
a powerful, well disciplined, and focused force user could for a short time at least develop and use a blade of pure force
but the crystal within the standard light sabre allows any force user to create a blade of some value. This aspect would make the light sabre just a collection of parts to a non force user
it would produce nothing
the ON button requires the force. :) |

.. However, don't forget Ben Kenobi DID say that the Lightsaber is 'still favored in some parts of the galaxy' (or something to that effect) when talking to Luke in ANH. :) -Will |

YouTube link Still a great movie to this day, even with changes
