I'm just a bit annoyed. It seems that both AC Moore and Micheals, which mind you are the only craft stores within 30 odd miles of my house, both have stopped carrying Delta Creamcoat, which was my chosen paint for minis. To add insult to injury they did it in order to carry MARTHA FRIGGEN' STEWART'S personal paint line.

I haven't been this annoyed about paint since they stopped making Accent Acrylic Paints.

Yes, this is a blow to the hobby in general. Delta ceramcoat is the best of the craft paints. I'm glad I stocked up on my necessaries for a while.

Shame I didn't get more trail tan.

Wow. I used craft paints for years, but got annoyed by the inconstancies and finally jumped to all hobby paints. I would have flipped a frickin' lid had I run into this-- you have my sympathies!!

"Where's my Creamcoat?"

Hanging on the hook in the hall, perhaps?

JRacel12 Oct 2011 2:52 a.m. PST

This is bad news. I still use craft paint a lot for terrain work. As Pictors mentioned, Trail Tan has always been a favorite.

HobbyLobby still has it,so far as I know,as well as JoAnne Fabrics. I just bought a huge bottle of black this past Saturday, with a 50% off coupon.

Wal Mart had them too.

I miss the old Heritage paints too!
Not to mention Polly S.

JoAnne Fabrics is my only choice now. At least they have almost every brand stocked on the shelves.

Delta Ceramcoat and Aleene's are very good. I forget the manufacturer of Aleene's but they have another line that is for ceramics I believe. I contacted the company and they say they will work for regular craft paints and are essentially the same paints but re-marketed for painting finished ceramics (in other words, they aren't meant to be put in a kiln)

You also have the Liquitex bottles. Quite expensive but way less than hobby paints on a per ounce basis.

Another option, though more expensive, is to use tube acrylics. You will have to thin and make sure you don't buy the less than opaque variety. The bonus is that you will probably NEVER run out. Liquitex and Winsor Newton are superb. I am sure Grumbacher and Daler Rowney are okay too. You do NOT want the student paints as they don't cover as well.

I freely buy from all of the above and hobby paints as well. Not all hobby paints have been good over the years. Many have been nothing but custom shades of house paint!

You can still get Apple Barrel from Wal-Mart, although they don't always have the full color pallet, like you can get at a hobby store…

You can still get Apple Barrel from Wal-Mart…

The local WM store recently stopped stocking most of the Apple Barrel items. Only primary colors in large sizes are now stocked. I can no longer get "Burnt Umber" or "Brown Oxide" at 1:00 am… when I tend to run out.

Where can you buy the Alene's Paints?
They disappeared several years ago…
I thought their red and yellow were the best!

Aleene's Flat Black was the bomb.
If this is still out there I need to order a 55 gallon drums worth.

lkmjbc312 Oct 2011 9:58 a.m. PST

Aleene's Craft paint is now..]
Bisque-Stain® Opaque Stain

Should be the same stuff… It is now sold as non-fired ceramic paint….

I'm not sure where you can buy it. Neither Michael's, nor Hobby Lobby, nor Jo-Ann's seem to carry it. May be direct only.

Anyone seen it retail?

I'll Have to check next time I am in the vacinity.
Not that I need them for a while, since I bought TONS of them when Michaels had them at 3/$1

Sorry. For the colors I use, the two are interchangable for me…
