Last year began the bicentennials of the South American Republics. Yust to remember them there are some of the most famous paintings of memorable battles. Battle of Carabobo, by Martín Tovar y Tovar. link The charge of Bueras, by Pedro León Carmona.
Battle of Maipu, by Pedro Subercaseux.
Combat of San Lorenzo, by Julio Fernández Villanueva.
Battle of Boyaca, by Martín Tovar y Tovar.
Battle of Rancagua, by Pedro Subercaseux.
Hope you enjoy them! Amicalement Armand |

I always love how Tovar y Tovar made the bridge at Boyaca look like it went over some chasm in Mordor, instead of a small stream that happened to be flooded. Great stuff, esp. "Battle of Rancagua". |

Nice find. The period is so underrepresented in wargaming. I have been a member of the Yahoo group on the era since the beginning. It is a fantastic subject that should be gamed more. VR James Mattes |

I happened to be over at OMM 2 weeks ago, and saw some very nice books on uniforms. I believe there were two volumes. Unfortunately, the price of $80 USD per volume was a deterrent. I agree, it should be gamed more. |

A great period that is under represented. I have been working out a kids game that I plan on hosting at a convention one of these days. maybe that will get a few people to consider the period. I am also part of a Yahoo group devoted to the Wars of South and Central America (SACA). Maybe James and I have stumbled across each other there? |

Hi Rudy: I don't know the exact dates for each but they are late 19th/early 20th Century. |

John, I am sure we have run across each other from time to time. I was on about 250 yahoo groups at one time. I am still on but check in only about once a month or so. Cheers! VR James Mattes |
