I just bought WOW on Amazon.com after playing at con. Is it a dead game? What other WWI air games are recommended? Where can you get planes?

It's still being played, and it is getting relaunched. You get planes on ebay, on-line stores, conventions, etc.

Mooseworks809 Oct 2011 10:19 a.m. PST

I see models of it at the FLGS. I thought about buying one of their models for use with my HITT WW1 Germans.

When is relaunch? Should I stop buying old rules sets?

The Beast Rampant09 Oct 2011 11:30 a.m. PST

After a lengthy absence, I have picked up the game again. I have been playing catch-up on the planes (as the miniatures aspect is my big enjoyment), I will go back and get the boxes soon, as I am sure the prices on them (unlike the minis) will surely start to drop as retailers clear them out.

I have sought, but found no real info on if & when the current line of minis will be re-released. I think they may may quickly end up disappearing from the retail market, but maybe I'm being paranoid.

WoW is now Wings of Glory and owned by Italian company Ares Games. They will be putting out the Gotha and Caproni bombers in January. This will be followed by a boxed version of the game possibly containing 4 mini's. I recommend the following forum for up to date info on the game.

If you have mini's in your FLGS buy them if you are at all interested in the game. They are hard to come by and you will pay less at the FLGS than you will online at ebay.

One of the Best DBx games ever.

Whether you play WoW or Wings of Glory or any other WWI aero game, I recommend that you buy the miniatures as they are really nice and worth the money.
I am looking forward to the Sails of Glory miniatures.

TheDreadnought09 Oct 2011 9:46 p.m. PST

Why did Fantasy Flight stop producing this game? I thought it was selling pretty well.

Sails of Glory ought to be cool too.

Fantasy Flight never produced it, they were just the English-language distributor. NG international were the maker, and seem to have died from cashflow and distribution problems. (Must admit as a Brit I was not displeased to see FFG out of the picture, as the Byzantine distribution chain meant that the UK, Australia and New Zealand tended to get the product after everyone else, and at a higher price too, since FFG added an extra level to the distribution chain for us compared to everywhere else….)

If I understand correctly, Nexus were reposnible for the the actual production of the card, boxes and even the minitures, but have gone into administration. The designers held the game rights but curiously not the games name.

Now they have hooked up with someone else or set up on their own production fascilities. But without owning the name, they could not carry on as if nothing happened.

Hence the relaunch.

Old Slow Trot11 Oct 2011 7:01 a.m. PST

And also probably why we can't find the planes lately.

Wings of War is alive and well!

It's not that they couldn't use the old title but realized that there was a video game already using that title and well known.

The WW2 version will probably arrive a bit sooner than WW1. Ares continued what was already in production in China, so their first release for WW2 will seem odd to anyone not already in the picture (The only plane out of 4 that I'm highly familiar with is the P-40. We'll see the "Japanese Messerschmidt" and a Russian and an Italian plane.)

I've reviewed the rules and they are well done and very much like the old game-- you won't have any problems using the old minies.

WW1 bombers are in the pipeline next, but won't have a full rule set with them, which pretty much restricts sales to folks already owning WoW materials. For the full boxed version of WW1, the plan is to re-do the molds on the original 4 planes to correct some errors and then re-release with NEW paint schemes.

kduke4208 Jan 2012 5:56 a.m. PST

Slight change to the last. About the me time the bombers come, they'll also release a box with rules, damage cards, counters, etc., but no planes.

Deucey Supporting Member of TMP13 Jan 2012 3:32 p.m. PST

Will the rules change?

Volleyfire06 Apr 2012 5:32 a.m. PST

Wondered what had happened to WoW as not played it lately. Bought the WW1 Bombers game last year and finally opened it last week for a bash. So I thought I'd go on eBay and see what there was going on there for sale. And Crikey old fruit!! Couldn't believe my eyes! WW1 stuff on buy it now for between £23.00 GBP and £36.00 GBP each1 Auctions getting up to £23.00 GBP per plane too! Has the bally world gone stark raving mad?

Volleyfire06 Apr 2012 7:46 a.m. PST

Found some pictures of the new Caproni and Gotha models, does anyone know who stocks these in the UK?

Volleyfire07 Apr 2012 2:28 a.m. PST

I see I've been looking at the wrong thread, didn't realize they were now ARES Games until I clicked on the thread about ARES Games bombers. So they should be out on sale any day soon.

afilter07 Apr 2012 4:01 a.m. PST

Volleyfire, You are correct. ARES also has plans to re-release all the old WoW models as well most likely with new paint schemes to keep stock up.

WoW and WoG are completly compatible, ARES is just changing some of the artwork and will likely add more rules as well along the way. It is the same game designer that took the game to ARES.

By WHY is this posted to the DBx Board??????

It's not the first time someone has cross-posted a WOW thread to teh DBx Board, so is there some connection I'm not aware of?

Cheers,
