This Titanium Series Raptor is what I'm talking about:

But these are the ONLY parts you're allowed to buy:

So, what SPECIFIC bits would you buy to make something like it, for use with 15mm figures?

Thanks,

Dan

Honestly… all you might need to make it work with 15mm is a good coat of paint.

I have no idea why you're restricting yourself to one set of search criteria, or trying to duplicate an existing item using such a limited array of parts. If you want a Titanium Raptor, buy a Titanium Raptor. They surface on eBay fairly often.

But to make a 15mm dropship from 40K bits… I'd find a busted old (current model) Space Marine Landspeeder. The ugliest, most broken one you can find for a buck on eBay. Its hull and engines are exactly what you'd use as a basis. Strip it down with some Simple Green.

Then all you have to do is find a couple of nice, angular canopy/windscreen pieces to cover the crew compartment. Add extra bits to taste, prime it, paint it. Quick and easy dropship or shuttle.

Waitaminute…. he's just trying to get us all to name the bitz so he can buy them w/o doing the brainwork himself.

He's a tricksy one…

LOL

Well, since I'm not familiar with the real size of the bits (or the 40K vehicles for that matter), and the pictures give no indication of scale, I do need a little help. :)

As for why I'm just looking at the 40K bits and not anything else, I know I can get all kinds of other components from around the house . . .

. . . but I wanted to work with molded bits that are easy to cut, sand and glue.

I'd start with a Tau Piranha and work from there…

(This be the Piranha mentioned above. Maybe flipped over?)

And Dan, I'd never seen those PDF links before, and now I am kind of blown away.

Cacique Caribe08 Oct 2011 2:00 p.m. PST

The website was closed down and now the tutorials are on PDF (which I'm saving, for sure).

I wish I could find part 2 though.

Dan
PS. The Piranha looks pretty cool!

Part 2 is attached to part 1! Only the first 7 pages or so are part 1…

Look at the Space Marine Landspeeder. To my eye it is more than 50% there.

I have considered it as a base for a dropship/shuttle.

+10 internets for the PDF links, really interesting.

IMHO with the landspeeder, the 50% that is remaining is pretty big – what would be the next steps after you've got the base?

Never played 40k since Rogue Trader, but have bought (and sold at some loss) various bits and pieces over the years. Found the Tau Devilfish to hold the most promise as a dropship/assault lander due to size, but with the problem that it has such a signature look that it may always look like a Devilfish no matter what you do.

Here are some examples of decent conversions

This thread is somewhat interesting from the kitbash Tau point of view link

The Eldar Vyper jet bike may be another option, as would be the Dark Eldar stuff – if you like spikes and such.

Psyckosama08 Oct 2011 7:38 p.m. PST

Dude. Honestly just buy the Raptor, buy a 1/72 gunship helicopter kit, and use bits from that. It'll be cheaper.

Eclipsing Binaries09 Oct 2011 6:43 a.m. PST

If your looking for a nice dropship why not try one of these…

@Eclipsing Binaries – I have one of those in storage! I think I will drag it out today…

@Eclipsing Binaries – Is that one of those old Star Wars mini vehicles for the action figures?

Cacique Caribe09 Oct 2011 9:32 a.m. PST

Wow. Yes, please tell us which ship is that!

Dan

Eclipsing Binaries09 Oct 2011 10:05 a.m. PST

It's a Star Wars AST-5 minirig. Loads of these on eBay…

@Eclipsing binaries:
I think I had one of those when I was a teen (scaled for the 3 1/2"or so figures, right?) – came out around the time of Jedi?

Shame my mother threw them out (that one, a twin engine two figure transport, and a third I can't recall).

Alex Reed11 Oct 2011 1:58 a.m. PST

Is there some reason that the OP can't just buy a Raptor?

Cacique Caribe11 Oct 2011 1:42 p.m. PST

But is the Raptor in scale with 15mm?
