VBAM Games' Mercenary Air Squadron is set in the near future, when governments find it more convenient to use private contractors for their air wars. What color scheme would you use for your mercenary air squadron? Or would you use multiple schemes, depending on the theater? |

hard to paint but I like this scheme "Splinter"

Individual pilot's tastes? If you paint planes to match specific pilots, then what do you do when that pilot "dies" in the campaign? Repaint the plane? Retire it? |

per Ming31, WWI colors based on pilot characters' tastes. I'll take a F20 TigerShark with tiger stripes. Or a F-85 green Goblin:) |

I would have though in most cases of pilots dying it will also mean their plane is gone too. Can't think of many combat situations where a pilot dies but his plane lands ok without him. |

I'd do individual paintjobs, but more-or-less standard for whatever nation provided the bird. And High-Viz markings. |

If you can
watch the Area 88 Japanese Anime. Although I think most of them used standard colors with personalized insignia |

If you paint all the planes individually, it could get confusing when playing. If you do paint individually paint only one side that way. The other side can be painted Standard. For my Silent Death ships I painted each TYPE of plane in standard colors. That way you can divvy up the plane types per side, and the next game you can change types of planes each side can use. |

I think he was referring to what becomes of the actual miniature/model if the pilot and/or plane buys it during the campaign. |

I think he was referring to what becomes of the actual miniature/model if the pilot and/or plane buys it during the campaign. Ah, well you could just repaint it OR
let the person that shot it down keep the model. Could be an interesting campaign that way. |

Haywire, that's what I was thinking, too. I think most of the birds were standard paintjobs for their source nation. IIRC, the Tomcat had been 'acquired' from the Playboys, so it had black tails with the bunny. An F8 Crusader was also in stock US colors except for the unique tail-art (blue tail with a red unicorn's head on it). However, a lot of the other birds didn't have any personal markings. |

RE Angel Barracks idea. I tried that in a 40k campaign re the officers since the goal was to protect the officers at all cost. It got expensive rather quickly. Running a 6mm campaign, now that is pretty do-able given the relatively low cost. That may just work

I, also would go with WWI-styles. I'd want a F20 Tigershark either in tiger stripes or jet black with a Playboy bunny symbol on the tail. |
