Unlike most 40K armies, the Grey Knights are depicted in their Codex in only a single painting scheme: dull metallic ("grey").

When you paint your Grey Knights, do you use the painting scheme from the Codex, or invent one of your own?

I do mine in a shining metal colour rather than dull. I like them as knights in shining armour.

I haven't decided yet. If they aren't grey, then they wouldn't be called the Grey Knights anymore.

I used GW chainmail as my base color.

I too went for the shining look. In fact I used a Chrome Spray paint as a base. Very Excalibur…..

If I remember rightly, originally they were a bronze/gold colour…

as mick A says, gold like the first examples were. ( i got 5 when they came out and am way too lazy to repaint, so they all got that scheme.)

My painted examples have a brown/bronze thing going since they are that old.

It could be a ruse to throw off Chaos, you know. "Those can't be Grey Knights, they're wearing orange armor!"

Of course, you could paint them in tiger stripes, then when they ask you why, you could explain… "They're GREY Knights!"

Since the Grey Knights are unknown to the universe at large, I suppose you could paint them anything… obviously, the Codex doesn't reveal all their secrets. grin

I was thinking about picking up a few squads for use in Apocalypse games (we have a few chaos/daemons players in our group). I'm thinking about using a rattle can of silver spraypaint to paint them. Maybe even a buffable paint. That'll make them nice and shiny!

Damon.

If I played the game, I would paint them in a gray flage scheme.

While I bet that looks fabulous, wouldn't that make them the Silver Knights? grin

Painted mine in bronze for Space Hulk back in the 90s…

They are pretty models.
