Ran across this shot video of a working AT-AT back at the primer of Episode II "Attack of the Clones". It is only 26 seconds but way way too cool. YouTube link VR James Mattes |

That 26 seconds was roughly 6.1 times cooler that "Attack of the Clones". Great marketing! |

"And now you'll be telling me my miniatures do not animate themselves when I am asleep, do battle for hours and then return to their boxes by morning
" This would go a long ways to explain all that unexplainable paint chipping on my old dark heaven figures. ;) Also, proportions were way wrong on the AT-AT. The thing is supposed to hold a platoon worth of men plus a bike section.

Yes, LA people have, but it's CG. That's about half the size of a 'real' AT-AT (feet are the size of a Rebel Snowspeeder, remember?). It's NOT denting the road, and something about the image just doesn't quite look right. |

Length 20 meters (66 feet 7 inches) Height/depth 22.5 meters (73 feet 9 inches) And the movie sucks every different scene the Snowspeeders are a different size in comparison. And the ones with the game which is about 25mm comes out to about 48 feet long, and 66 feet high. Ever heard of scale creep? Besides it is the California good gas mileage version. Think of it as the AT-AT lite. Also those are Old Imperial unit measurements, when a rod was 16 feet. and YOU Know the Empire always lies. Which with a meter being a fairly significant unit of distance, means a lot of possible difference there
You say there's one for a game? Hmm? 25mm you say? :) In production? Out of production? And I think with 25-28mm, if you wanted a proper scale AT-AT, you could use the toy one. If the picture I posted is even half correct, that puts the toy, of which I own an original and my step-dad owns a 90s re-release
at 28mm scale. And I think they just re-released it a second or third time now since The Clone Wars series caused a resurgence in popularity among those who are Star Wars fans, but don't read any of the novels n' such. (Which is the category I fall into.)
.. Now I need to pull my old AT-AT toy from it's storage box deep in the basement and compare it against some Spehss Marheens! Who may or may not then get a chance to proxy Stormtroopers for a battle or two

You might be interested to know that there were imperial speeder bikes next to Jabbas sail barge. They were not in the movie but were present during shooting. The bikes were made by the same people who did the sail barge and skiffs. The bikes were then transported to California for filming of Endor. |

They are all assuming there is only one version of the AT-AT available, which is wrong. There are smaller and larger versions than what were shown in the movies. Same with the scout versions. It was easier to scale up or down the size to fit on various imperial ships (or on it, as they could also be attached to hardpoints on some landers) and to match size to the force needed. In addition to being winched up or climbing a ladder, the thing can actually kneel and give access to the thing, though everyone needs to really be strapped in when it stands back up. That is also why they shot the thing after it fell on Hoth, the crew more than likely survived when it fell and could quite possibly have freed the thing. The assault troops would be put out long before they go into battle. It is not like a helicopter that just shows up, so you don't want to disembark under fire. And basically able to cross any terrain and almost invulnerable to fire, unless you bend one falling over to expose a break in the armor welds, what is the hurry. That is what the smaller guys are for. It is a TRANSPORT, not a TANK. That is why a FRONT LINE GENERAL rides in the thing. |

)"Ever heard of an invention called "rope"? Why yes I have. I was a Fast Rope instructor in the military. A helo MH6, MH60 etc comes into the target site, does a dynamic flair and you drop a 90 foot fast rope, when the rope hits the ground soldiers, often with 150lbs of combat gear slide down and disperse around the fast rope site. Think of a fire pole. This replaced repelling in the US Army around the 1980s. Once the unit is on the ground the crew chief of pilot release the rope and flys off. Time about 8 seconds to put a full MH-60 compartment of troops on the ground. FWIW I have fast roped at sea onto a moving ship at night in heavy seas. It is a proven concept.
All the official info says that they rope down from the side. Oh contraire, similar to how elephant and camel riders dismount the vehicle bends down and troops dismount. See the hatch in the rear of the walkers.
It's a vehicle that combines the role of an assault gun with an APC really. Yes Bradley Infantry fighting vehicle heavy gun (relatively) and troop transport.

"When there's too much variation in info, I take it with a grain of salt, or dismiss it all once finding a solid answer on a fictional machine becomes too troublesome." :) However
Going off known diagrams
The proportions would still make the CGI model in said video too small. "This is the one from the game. I have 11 of them:" Oooooooooh! That one. There's one still at my LGS. And an AT-ST. Couple packs of figures too I think.
That custom built one on Ebay is awesome
I think I'd buy it if I had -Storage space for it -The $550 USD to blow -Less sanity than I already have "They are all assuming there is only one version of the AT-AT available, which is wrong. Never heard this before. Any sources of more info? I just know that the first ones were used during the last stages of the Clone Wars. Also. Thought occurs
There are RPG-equivalents in the Star Wars universe
. Why not try to mobility kill it? Can't imagine that the armour on the knee joints is too thick to withstand multiple strikes. A satchel charge with some really high grade stuff in it would probably work on the ankles too. *Edit: Have I ever mentioned that I love conversation on here? Before this thread, I never would have discussed the role of an AT-AT in a military organization, or thought immediately to identify it as a type of heavy IFV. |

Having lived in LA for some time now
It's fake/CGI. I would have remembered a "Real" AT-AT
Not to mention, if there was a REAL AT-AT
Where is it now? Who built it? Who wrote the Software that controls the legs? How did they keep it from ruining the roadway? Jeez
If I posted one of those Videos with the Death Star shown hanging in the sky above LA, would you people think it was real too? |

You're a little late to the "It's fake" party. And by late, I mean you missed it. Entirely. "Who wrote the Software that controls the legs?" Making legs work with that little motion range isn't too hard evidently. So sayeth John Deere, normally known for tractors and mowers. Completely awesome, isn't it? Now we need to armour it up, make it faster and stick autocannons or remote controlled .50s and a few boxes or pods of rockets on it.

Eh, AT-ATs use the cat/dog walking gait, it's not difficult to program, but the Elephant gait would be faster. Besides, where do you think they got those robo-dogs control software from? And rabban, 'pro wrestling' is just a soap opera for guys. |
