I have decided to put together a small superhero team and have chosen the team for how it looks rather than whether they are good or evil.

I have chosen Nick Fury, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hurricane, Juggernaut and Hurricane.

The idea is that these characters can be explained away by a super-soldier serum or technological mastery and therefore, can be used as a special 'attachment' to my regular armies.

Here is the first one, Black Widow:

and there is more info on my blog:

Next up will be Hurricane and I also have Juggernaut as an armature.

Are the miniatures on the top row part of your superhero team?

Insomniac02 Oct 2011 10:42 p.m. PST

No, they are for scale purposes.

Insomniac09 Oct 2011 9:39 a.m. PST

So…another scale pic with a finished Hurricane and an almost finished Juggernaut:

As usual, there is more info over at my blog including a couple of other WIP sculpts:

The team, is looking great.

A side bar thought…who is the big guy with big gun in this pic upper right corner?

28mmMan29 Oct 2011 4:52 p.m. PST

Was a dual posting :(

I normally dislike the hopping fairy dancers, but your Eldar in grey looks good :)

Insomniac30 Oct 2011 4:19 p.m. PST

The big guy is a Syntha Marine from the old Void range…now available from Scotia Grendel (31302 in the link):

Did you copy this guy's paint scheme?

:)

Thanks for data!

…Haha! Those are mine too :)

I have others too…VASA:

…shhh don't tell anyone…but I knew those were yours :)

Insomniac01 Nov 2011 6:07 p.m. PST

I thought you did…but I had to check ;)…

…She-Hulk is finished. She is sculpted and has been plonked on a base ready for a photo session tomorrow. Not far behind is Iron Man who needs an arm, a hand and some small details on his back finishing and he will be done too.

I can't believe the muse has stayed with me for so long on this little project…it has been a long time since I enjoyed sculpting so much.

There is more info over at Inso's World (link in first post); including the newest sculpt; Goliath.

Inso…I gotta ask…why the push for short versions?

I get the Grymm connection, are you working within the theme of a world setting where everyone is a dwarf?

Just asking…I like what you have done…just seems a bit, focused :)

Insomniac06 Nov 2011 3:47 p.m. PST

Because I am 4ft 2" tall.

Captain Britain:

"Because I am 4ft 2" tall"

About as good a reason as I could imagine :)

I was not familiar with that alternate costume

This is the one I remembered

I do like the full face mask, fun stuff.

Insomniac19 Nov 2011 12:27 a.m. PST

I am just not looking forward to painting the cuffs and face mask…Tiny flags :(

former member19 Nov 2011 5:56 a.m. PST

The older costume was mainly 1970's; the latter one from the early 80's onwards, so has governed most of his appearances I believe.

28mmMan19 Nov 2011 6:41 a.m. PST

"I am just not looking forward to painting the cuffs and face mask…Tiny flags :("

Any chance of using slide decals?

Insomniac19 Nov 2011 7:14 a.m. PST

I don't have any decals small enough…and have already bitten the bullet and painted him (only the base to go!). The flags weren't as bad as I thought and although they are certainly not perfect, they look like Unions flags and that is good enough for me.

This miniature has been the most challenging out of the bunch so far because I couldn't get the proportions right and removed his face three times….now that he is all painted, he has been worth all of the heartbreak :).

Pics will come, once the base is finished.

(The one I have made is the first incarnation. He has a staff rather than the sceptre of the second incarnation so he can't fly. The white costumed chap can fly without the need for a weapon as the suit provides all of the powers. The later suits were inert because the powers were inside the man).

former member19 Nov 2011 12:21 p.m. PST

Inso – seeing that harness on CB made me think how cool it would be to see Hercules in his 80's (John Byrne?) costume which has a similar harness.

Insomniac20 Nov 2011 3:52 a.m. PST

I'll have a look into it…I thought that you would have mentioned the Hawkeye version of Goliath instead…

…here's the Captain all painted:

picture

28mmMan20 Nov 2011 10:37 p.m. PST

Dude…that looks ridiculously good!

Just simply great.

Insomniac24 May 2012 7:23 a.m. PST

…sound of blowing the dust of this topic…

It's been a while but Beast was on the corks and I have finally completed his body so it's just his head to go:

picture

The Dark Eldar is for scale purposes :) (as usual).

Adding all the fur was interesting…:(

mdauben25 May 2012 8:16 a.m. PST

Amazing work with both the sculpting and the painting.

Insomniac26 May 2012 2:57 a.m. PST

Cheers… Beast is now finished and in the process of paint:

Kev134029 May 2012 12:26 p.m. PST

Awesome stuff Inso! Shame you couldn't have got them cast up before painting ….

Cheers,

Kev

Insomniac31 May 2012 8:25 a.m. PST

They aren't designed for casting and wouldn't necessarily have fitted correctly (wrong positions/overhangs etc).

The practice that I am getting with these will make getting future work cast easier… and it will be of a better quality.

I'm glad you like them though :).

Kev134031 May 2012 11:32 a.m. PST

The practice is definitely paying off Inso, these look better than most available 'super' miniatures, I love 'em.

Cheers,

Kev

Insomniac31 May 2012 11:34 p.m. PST

The next one is a little larger than the rest… Goliath is WIP at the moment and he's the one on the left:

picture

He is an OGrymn (a Grymn Ogre) who has taken super-serum so his proportions aren't human, they are OGrymn. He still has a long way to go but I have to be careful not to cover him in finger prints so contact time is reduced to small areas at a time.

Insomniac05 Jun 2012 4:34 a.m. PST

A little progress:

picture

Insomniac10 Jun 2012 9:53 a.m. PST

Goliath is getting there slowly :) :

picture

Kev134011 Jun 2012 5:03 a.m. PST

Comming along very nicely, though I always prefered the costume worn by Clint Barton during his stint as Goliath.

Cheers,

Kev

Insomniac11 Jun 2012 9:09 a.m. PST

The Clint Barton costume is much cooler than the one I've done but this one covers all the flesh and doesn't look like the Captain Britain that I sculpted… and he doesn't have any red on him (and the team has rather a lot of red).

I agree though… the 'strong man' look of Clint's Goliath is much cooler :)
