looks like china is lacking in 1/600 airforce, I know that the J-7 is basically a Mig-21. How would a SU-15 do as a stand in for the J-8, has anyone else done this? |

The joy of 1/600 is that its close enough. You could try add the dorsal ridge with green stuff. But paint will give you the best effect. I'm using a C-119 to stand in for a Nordatlas. I had thought about filling off the nose, and carving new windows on it (as that is about the only thing that stands out as different). Then said; "Naw, who would know?". At this scale unless someone picks up the model and starts going over it point for point, who cares? |

Desert, I've not tried it, but now that you mentioned it, it seems a good fit. The wingspan is exactly the same, although you would have to file off the SU 15's double sweep, and although the J 8II is a few meters longer who is going to know in 1:600. I face the same problem for my PLAAF/PLANAF. So far I've kitbashed Q5s by adding Tubling Dice Etendard noses to Mig 19 bodies; and JH7s by taking plastic 1:700Mig 25s, shortening the noses, extending the cockpits with putty, shortening the wing and notching it, and shortening the horizontal stabilizer and replacing the twin rudders with a single plasticard one. Cheers, Bertie |
