Other than the single web page at dashingdicegames.co.uk does anyone know about the Witchfinder General Rules from Dashing Dice Games?

The site says:

This exciting new wargame rule book contains 108 A4 sized pages of furious wargaming fun. The game is inspired by folklore, myth and the propaganda pamphlets produced by all sides involved in the English Civil Wars. Witchfinder General: Days of Revelation provides background and rules for using: Witchfinders; angry villagers; clubmen; pikemen; musketeers; dragoons; cavalry; vampires; werewolves; witches; noctelinger and barguests.

Designed for use with 28mm scale figures.

Thanks in advance
Andrew

Cool!

Ooh…

Ooh :)

I had plans to do something like this last year (Solomon Kane was on my mind), and as always real life got in the way. I had planned to use Chaos in Carpathia, or Fear and Faith, so this would save me modding the rules for it. You've seen my undead army, Andrew, and the ECW troops and civilians I painted up – that's the project they were originally for.

It will be interesting to compare it with Pike and Shot and Zombies which is, IIRC, for very small protagonist groups of 1 or 2 minis. And a somewhat specialised subject matter.

This also looks like it picks up on the genuine folklore and beliefs of the period – after going on a ghost walk in Whitby in the summer, this has got me thinking about a Whitby Barghest scenario already…

Um – short answer is no, I don't know anything :(

Other than it costing £15.00 GBP (which it also says on the site) I don't know anything either.

However, reading about it has prompted me to buy and read "Witchfinders: A Seventeenth-century English Tragedy", which is an excellent book.

I'm very much looking forward to this!

It would be nice to at least have a general idea of how the rules are. I love the concept and have tons of ECW figures not yet painted but they would be perfect for this.

Thanks for the tip. Downloaded the kindle version from Amazon.

That looks fantastic! Hope more info is forthcoming.

If any of you have Warrior Heroes: Armies and Adventures from Two Hour Wargames, I slipped in all the stuff you would need for for early gunpowder games and include a number of cults suitable for weeding out by a Witch Hunter.

You can read some AAR's on my blog: link

Not trying to flog it but wrote the game with this in mind as I wasn't aware of any others covering the genre at the time. If others are in the same boat they might want to give it a try.

Oh this is nice! SOLOMON KANE RIDES AGAIN!

shelldrake25 Sep 2011 2:34 p.m. PST

I don't know anything helpful either, but I will be going back on the 31st of October to find out more.

I just came across the rules available for pre-order on the Book Depository site: link

Hurlbat Games26 Sep 2011 5:17 a.m. PST

I'm sure that said it was about £11.00 GBP when I first clicked on it but now it says £18.11 GBP so I have pre-ordered from Amazon instead (might as well get free delivery)

Just pre-ordered from the Book Depository for £11.25 GBP with free delivery. Let's hope it arrives.

Looks interesting, must log in when the page goes live!

Looking at that page, anyone know who makes the witch & barguest miniatures?

Hurlbat Games26 Sep 2011 7:52 a.m. PST

The witch is foundry link and the barguest are Heresey Hellhounds link

auton126 Sep 2011 8:41 a.m. PST

Cheers, had a vague feeling I recognised the barguest but had forgotten the Heresey ones

Shame the witch is from Foundry, no way I'm paying out postage for one pack…..

shelldrake26 Sep 2011 3:20 p.m. PST

auton1 – try Cailver Books – the pack is 10 GBP and if you spend 15 GBP on one order you get it postage free.

This is the only way I have been able to afford getting Foundry figures myself.

I have read the rules but yet to play…Looks fun and the production of the book is very nice…

flintlocklaser31 Dec 2011 5:28 p.m. PST

Any more to report on this ruleset? Any of you been able to play it yet? Also, is there a US seller for them? This looks like a possible project for my group in the new year!

Stickler Mitchell01 Jan 2012 10:10 a.m. PST

Hello flintlocklaser. Witchfinder General has a dedicated forum dashingdicegames.co.uk/forum where you can get a good overview of how players are finding this new game.

I am rather biased towards Witchfinder as I have spent the last three years designing the game and writing the rules, but if you do have any specific queries please do get in touch.

I am not aware of a US based seller yet and I do recommend you get the rules from either Dashing Dice Games direct or Warlord Games or Caliver Books. All the best for 2012.

flintlocklaser01 Jan 2012 5:15 p.m. PST

Eric,

Thanks for popping by to answer my question! I'll check out those forums this week. Good to know Warlord carries it – I think their shipping to the US is a bit easier on the wallet.

Thanks again, and happy new year to you as well!

flintlocklaser04 Jan 2012 11:20 a.m. PST

Followup – since Warlord's shipping to the US is only about a buck and a half, I went ahead and pulled the trigger. When it gets here I'll try and post something about it here and/or at my blog.

Thanks again Eric!

Stickler Mitchell07 Jan 2012 3:48 a.m. PST

You are most welcome. Thanks for your interest. I hope you have as much fun playing the game as we had creating it.

You should if you have the rights – put this in PDF on RPG drive thru

These rules seem interesting. All the links are dead. Does anyone know if they're still around anywhere? Anyone have a copy they'd like to sell?

KeepYourPowderDry12 Dec 2019 11:42 a.m. PST

the links to Dashing Dice Games posted by the OP still works.

the rules are OOP, so you'll have to look on ebay etc

zardoz1957 Supporting Member of TMP15 Dec 2019 10:25 p.m. PST

Yeah looked there. No luck. Looks like Noble Knight had them until about a year ago.
