Polls should be restricted to wargaming topics, as per general discussion on the main message boards: Yes. No. Needs more boo
no it bloody well doesn't, grow up
. No opinion, it's far too complex an issue for me

I just drove a 7 hour trip home from Ottawa with my 4 year old grandson. For the last hour and a half of the trip the constant question were: "Are we there yet?" and "Where are we?". Cute and kind of funny the first time, but mind numbingly annoying every 10 seconds. Yes. Resoundingly YES! Rob.
and while I don't always agree with some of the attitudes displayed here, repeated polls singling out individuals are beyond tedious. ..also surprised b/s didn't get bleeped

You may not have noticed, but the non-wargaming topics are often the most popular. |

Which polls were personal attacks? None, to my knowledge. What we have here is a failure in perception. Just because you do not think it's a personal attack it does not mean the recipient does not feel it's a personal attack. This may come as a shock but some people have different values and perceptions. You may not have noticed, but the non-wargaming topics are often the most popular. And that's the case for your defense? Hmm. |

Maybe so, but wouldn't it be nice to have a miniatures site that is all about the miniatures?

Just because you do not think it's a personal attack it does not mean the recipient does not feel it's a personal attack. Aren't you on the wrong topic? Dom is talking about non-wargaming polls. And that's the case for your defense? Hmm. Am I on trial? After all, the polls are proposed by the TMP community. If you don't like polls on movies or music, you can always ignore them
Maybe so, but wouldn't it be nice to have a miniatures site that is all about the miniatures? Except that, as I've already said, the majority of TMPers seem to disagree with you. Polls about movies, for instance, are always popular. |

Aren't you on the wrong topic? Dom is talking about non-wargaming polls. Possibly, but I was quoting your 5.27am response to JRacel and then commenting. Am I on trial?<?q>Err no. But you are defending your decision to create non-wargaming polls on the basis that they are more popular. |

More controversy. More site hits. Lovely. Whilst in the DH last time (and thus of course unable to respond until it was far too late to look anything but childish) the Editor suggested that my similar accusation was completely wrong in a less than charitable manner. Don't say you missed that memo

That was not aimed for you Bill, but rather the person I quoted.
But seeing as you are around
If people like non gaming stuff let them go to a non gaming site. I like gaming stuff which is why I visit such sites. |
Old Bear | 08 Sep 2011 8:41 a.m. PST |
Oh, and another resounding YES. I come here for wargaming. Not puerility, boobies or the pseudo-intellectual barely-got-a-thing-to-do-with-wargaming guff on Napoleonic Discussions. Mind you, I have a feeling that if we restriced the Napoleonics boards to actual wargamers the place would be considerably different. |

HornetsNestMinis | 08 Sep 2011 9:11 a.m. PST |
YES. Enough already. While most find them amusing, clearly everyone is not mature enough to handle the polls. This is a site about wargaming. Stay on target. So to hell with the polls. Fix the news. |

Sorry, but this is lame. You know exactly the types of posts and polls we are discussing. If I allowed the same behvior as you are allowing in my job I would be fired for allowing harrasment. If I had done it as a teacher I would be fired. If this was allowed to be done to most people's kids or loved ones, they would want the person strung up or at least fired. It is allowing harrasment when you have been told by not only the person beinh harrased, but also by many other third parties it is being seen as such. I normally don't get involved in this kind of behavior on TMP, but I am burned out on it and want to see it end. That means you doing the right thing Bill. I truely hope you know what that is. My supporting membership and continuation on this forum are really starting to look bleak. Get things back on target please, moderate the nonsense, and make this site a great place to come again without the worthless soap opera. It's up to you Bill to make that happen. For the record, I don't give 2 cents about the movie polls and such, they are fine, but polls should never be addressed agaisnt a TMP member no matter how harmless some peopel think they are. Harmless quickly becomes harrasment. If you just don't allow it, it can't be abused. |

JRacel is spot on. Two months too busy to really see what has been going on in wargaming. Logged on to catch up on wargaming and see this kind of stuff. Leaves me flat. Let's get by the personal stuff polls
and, yes, I understand I don't have to be here or log in my response to the poll; but really? Life's too short to waste it on harassing others within a small hobby. |
CeruLucifus | 08 Sep 2011 11:17 a.m. PST |
No, not everything has to be about wargaming. It can also be about painting, sculpting, related publishing, casting, experiences at social gatherings for the above, etc. I do think everything on this site should be related to miniatures. And it's so easy to do. Examples: Topic: What movies best represent such and such? Suggest miniatures please Poll: Do you think whatever is left, right or sidewise? How would you represent this in miniatures? Veiled Personal attack: What do you think should be done with members belonging to such a general demographic group? Tar and feathering, hanging, burning at stake, doghousing, ignoring? Suggest miniatures. Overt Personal Attack: Does member so and so have a life? Yes, no, how would you know, you kinda like his posts, no opinion. Suggest miniatures quick before this topic is pulled. Topic: What Miniatures I saw at such and such an event and what I thought of the experience. |

A THOUGHT.. Maybe one way to handle this is to have TWO different sections for Polls: one set of WARGAMING related polls, and one set of GOOFY polls for non-gaming stuff. That way, the people who abhor the GOOFY polls can just ignore them (like turning off other sections of TMP), and focus solely on the WARGAMING related polls. |

Polls should be restricted to wargaming topics Does this also apply to all topics and posts then as well? If so, make it happen. Most of the problems come from non-hobby related polls and topics. Get rid of those, get rid of most of the problem. |
Poi000 | 09 Sep 2011 1:57 a.m. PST |
If it isn't about gaming, get the out of Dodge. That can be interpreted widely, so music to game by is acceptable, but favourite bands is a nono. And anything aimed at an individual, should get the proposer DH'd. By all means have ONE forum for non-gaming, but keep everything else to what this place is supposed to be about. Our esteemed Editor needs to pulls his head out of his arse and see exactly what he is shovelling. Blame the members? He is the one allowing all this to continue. If he took the stand his own rules suggest, none of this would be happening. |
