Is there any single volume on the market that provides descriptions/illustrations of uniforms from the early 1700s period? More specifically, I'm looking for uniforms of the War of the Spanish Succession and Great Northern War. |

C.S. Grant's "From Pike to Shot" is very good for the WSS but has nothing on the GNW. I think there is an Osprey or two on those combatants. |

The old Knoetel, Knoetel and Sieg Uniforms of the World covers the combatants of both those wars in a sketchy fashion. No color plates but lots of B&W drawings. |

The GNW is covered (well almost covered) in 2 volumes by a Swedish author. Both excellent works and plenty of info and colour pics. Rather pricey though. |

I think the short answer is "No". Cumulatively, there is a lot of information from varied sources, but no one definitive volume for the WSS/GNW years that I'm aware of. I have a ~300 card set illustrating WSS uniforms which I bought from Siegbert Wagner years ago. I suppose today's equivalent are the excellent Hall CD's, although I don't think they've been offered as one consolidated collection. Steve |

I don't know if they're still available, but Editions Brokaw offered a series of booklets about the WSS and the GNW which complimented EB's 15mm soldiers. Most of the booklets were written and illustrated by Pat Condray. These weren't high-quality publications, as far as their physical quality was concerned. But they were packed with information useful for wargamers. They were very inexpensive. A couple weeks ago, I noticed that someone here on TMP was getting some respectable bids on Ebay for two or three of these old booklets. So perhaps they indeed are OOP. |
