Hello,
I have posted a painting guide for painting soviet armor relatively fast.
There was some debacle with the mat varnish due to humidity but this was salvageable. I really went for quality of quantity. Honestly, I don't have time anymore to spend 4 hours per tank.

Very nice I'm painting Soviets at the moment. I don't have quite as many tanks as you do though (just the seven)

Those look really good. I like the flag on the commander's T-34.

Very good job. Glad you could salvage the paintjobs.

Great tutorial.

Like you I prefer dark brown for the primer/pre-shade. Think first got this technique from a Resistant Rooster tutorial for figures? I find the dark brown from the Krylon cammo range, available at WalMart among other places, works great.

You can save some time by not putting red stars on them. The Soviets didn't unless it was lend-lease or captured.

While unusual it was not unprecedented for Soviet tanks to carry the red star. For example the 30th Guards Tank Brigade carried a prominent red star over the Guard Banner on the side of the turrets of their T-34s. The 27th Guards Separate Heavy Tank Regiment carried two red stars on each side of the turrets of their IS-2s. In Stalin's Heavy Tanks 1941-1945 by Concord, on page 32, is a picture of an SU-152 with what appears to be a red star outlined in white (picture is B&W so hard to confirm color) on the side of the superstructure.

My bad – I should have said "…didn't USUALLY unless it was lend lease.."

27th Guards is kinda cool if you want something different to break up the monotony of olive drab. BTW I use that dark brown Krylon for priming figures too, it is excellent stuff!

If you get bored with 4BO then try the 347th Guards Hvy SP Regt – 4 colour camo, with sand, tan and black – very fetching :-)

No red stars though
