What is your favorite uniform? Could be any era, any army.

Pizzagrenadier03 Sep 2011 9:00 a.m. PST

Any uniform that involves a great coat. From Napoleonic French or Russian, to WWII Soviet or German (or French or American)…they just look cool to me. I wear my WWII Swiss whenever it gets cold enough here.

Oh, and these:

Martin Rapier03 Sep 2011 9:11 a.m. PST

Falklands era DPM, '58 pattern webbing, short puttees, ammo boots, Mark V helmets, SLRs….

Sundance03 Sep 2011 9:21 a.m. PST

WWI/WWII German Navy. Some of the best looking uniforms ever, IMO. I'm also partial to USN officer whites.

John D Salt03 Sep 2011 9:31 a.m. PST

Martin Rapier is, as so often, wholly correct.

All the best,

John.

Redcoats, almost any time period. They just stand out.

For some reason, I am drawn to the 1806 Saxon Grenadier Uniform, and most of the 1806 Prussian Kurisassier Uniforms. There is something about those Bicornes.

Tie: USMC dress blues (modern) and the U.S. Continental Army officer's uniform.
Confederate officer's dress grays come in a close third.

KSmyth03 Sep 2011 11:47 a.m. PST

U.S. Army, the Mexican War. All of them are nice, but the dragoon uniform is especially attractive.

I also like the 1779 regulation Continental Army uniforms. Dunno if anybody actually wore them.

Any Paul Revere and the Raiders uniforms.

Irish Marine03 Sep 2011 1:06 p.m. PST

The USMC 1943 pattern Camo uniform of the Pacific war.

21eRegt03 Sep 2011 1:33 p.m. PST

Empress Dragoons of la Garde Imperiale. From the shade of green (my favorite) to the leopard skins on the helmets, great stuff.

VonBlucher03 Sep 2011 1:38 p.m. PST

Grenadiers a Cheval of the Garde undress uniform of 1807, and Prussian 2nd Regt of Cuirassier 1806 (Yellow Riders).

Mrs P likes the uniform worn by australian rules football players…

Have to think about what might be my favorite…

15th Hussar03 Sep 2011 7:08 p.m. PST

Is there ANY question?

Chasseurs a Cheval de la Garde Imperiale, 1re Empire, a "la hussard" (dolman off the shoulder).

Anything else is peasant wear covered in "ordeur"!

Do you have the legs for #2, Flintloque?

Grand Duke Natokina03 Sep 2011 9:07 p.m. PST

My choice is Nam Tigers and jungle boots.

Bashytubits03 Sep 2011 10:35 p.m. PST

The expression on Murat's horse looks like he can't believe his owner made him wear that outfit.

Femeng204 Sep 2011 4:30 a.m. PST

Dear sundance, are you referring to summer dress whites or Full Dress whites? We called the first The Godd Humor Man uniform, and the Full Dress whites are impossibly starched with an extra starched collar piece. Also try keeping the shoes white and clean.

Captain dEwell04 Sep 2011 5:10 a.m. PST

The Women's Auxillery Balloon Corps.

Followed closely by the ECW Buff Coat, Lobster-Pot Helmet, and big booties. . . but then I am a less talented spitting image of George Clooney . . . the one from Port Talbot, South Wales!

Sundance04 Sep 2011 5:23 a.m. PST

Femeng, the full dress whites.

And if you're including sports in the mix, I can't believe none of you have ever heard of the lingerie football league. I certainly don't follow the stuff, but some of you, no doubt, do. :o)

Franco-Prussian War, Bavarian Army. Love the raupenhelm.
Also, anything German in WWII. They had style, what can I say?

The Barcelona FC kits looks smart too.

Gonsalvo04 Sep 2011 4:49 p.m. PST

I agree with Andrew – has to be the Chasseurs a Cheval of the Imperial Guard, full dress!

goragrad04 Sep 2011 10:15 p.m. PST

Perhaps not quite a uniform, but since I first saw it in 'Arms and Armor Annual, Vol. 1,' I have been taken with the Winged Hussar equipage.
