Oh boy, haven't thought about these for years! I loved collecting them as a kid. My favourites were probably: 24 Prehistoric animals 27 The Sea our Other World |

The number of these started but not finished does not bare thinking about. Our problem was that at the time only my mum really drank much tea (I was an orange squash man or, on occassion, a swift half of Ribena). |

Mum and Dad always bought Co-op 99 tea so I had to rely on my Mamgu and other relatives. |

Didn't 25 have art by Roy Cross, the king of Airfix box tops? I think I collected numbers 20 to 26, which probably gives my age away

I understand that ony a wallchart was issued for "The Language of Tea" (1988), which must be my favourite collection. My total accumulation of cards for this collection was one, which had "Would you like a cup of tea?" written in Russian below the red flag of the USSR. This I stuck to my VAX monitor at my place of work; I then worked in Department 53 of Hunting Engineering Limited (purveyors of fine cluster munitions to the gentry). As a tea-lover and Russian speaker, I regarded such decoration as wholly appropriate. One day my mate Jim Barr asked to borrow my monitor -- he was running a really long GPSS/H simulation on his, and I was working on one of the Teamwork workstations, so I said "OK". While Jim was at my desk, a Very Senior Manager made one of his fairly rare visits to the office, and, in passing, pointed at the red flag and said "That's an interesting choice of decoration, Jim". Jim was furious with me. I just thought it was lucky the Very Senior Manager -- who among other things ran part of the Chevaline project -- didn't see the one-pint ironstone CND mug I was drinking my tea from. Wargaming content: I had purchased the mug from the CND stall outside, oooh, Salute, I think it was. The CND people must surely have been fascinated to learn that their famous logo had also served as the tactical insignia for 3rd Panzer Division. All the best, John. |

Oh my! I had such an intense flashback after reading this thread. I remember the excitement of opening the tea packet and getting the card. It was such a rich sensory experience: the rustling sound of the card, and feeling the transition from the smooth cardboard of the box to the light rough snowlike texture of the tea leaves, to the glossy processed finish ofthe card itself. Then hearing the sound of the tea leaves as you pull out the card. It's like noisy dry sand . And then the smell of the ink and the tea leaves. So evocative! |
