Well, it's a few weeks late (that's a Society of Ancients August for you!) … but I have finally posted the Claymore report on Ancients of the Move

link

Paul and the Glasgow Phoenix did a big Magnesia game (Tactica II) … Plenty of pictures … Enjoy.

Thanks, Phil, it's always good to see more photos! It's just a shame that the Romans won through again…

Cheers
Paul

Thank you for sharing.

Hi Mike, nothing as yet. Last I heard on the yahoo group, Arty Conliffe is looking at specific publishers. I hope it really does work out this time, it's the third year we've taken a game to Claymore in Edinburgh saying that "It's in the playtest stages"! Any more might become rather embarrassing, so I hope it's resolved soon…

Paul, thanks for the answer! Also saw what you have planned for next year! I do have a lot of Persians to die!!! I wish that I could be there!! My next game will be early Rome vs Gauls! Alot of hoplites. Mike

Pergamenes – 90 foot plus 24 cavalry and Eumenes

Seleucids – Mounted: 18 Elite lancers, 84 Cataphracts, 54 Galatian cavalry, 32 light horse, a dozen camels, 4 elephants and 5 scythed chariots. Plus 4 mounted leaders
Seleucids – Foot: 384 phalangites, 96 Argyraspides, 96 Galatians, 81 light infantry and 60 skirmishers. Oh, and three foot command figs.

Grand totals: 1402 infantry, 283 mounted, plus heffalumps and scythed chariots.

Must buy more…

LOL … I don't think you had enough of the miscellaneous skirmishers on the Seleucid side (see Livy …)

Phil :)

Fantastic ! did you make the mat ?

Caliban05 Sep 2011 4:21 a.m. PST

Hi Tartyy, the mat is by Mat O' War, I think. They come in a plain beige desert colour, and one of our club members (Blucher here on TMP) did things to it to make it a bit more interesting. The mats themselves are quite cheap and are made of quite nice thick felt-type stuff.

Tarty2Ts06 Sep 2011 11:59 p.m. PST

Yeah right..good stuff. Reason I'm asking is I'm about to have a go at making my own desert mat. Yours does look the business I must say……felt…hmmm… I'm going to try a painters drop sheet ( which is like a canvas ). Still want it fexible enough to put hills under, then use a latex brushed over and flocked while still wet. I've done a few test pieces which look good so far, but still not sure about finishing it off.

Caliban07 Sep 2011 3:51 a.m. PST

It would be interesting to see how large a mat you could do with the home-made latex and flock technique. There is a company in the UK that makes them: terrainmat.com

Probably no use to yourself in NSW, but maybe worth a look for ideas? Just in case you hadn't come across them before.

Tarty2Ts07 Sep 2011 6:51 a.m. PST

I found out about terrainmat ( thanks for the heads up anyway )……. but not until I'd already bought everything I needed to do my own. Typical. However I would have had to take out a second mortgage to get it over here, so I think I'm still ahead. The area will be 6' x 12'….so if you hear in the news " a body found wrapped in latex and canvas " you'll know it was me……..and it didn't work.
