Ran across this while surfing a killer wave on the net this morning! Enjoy! Death Star Run Game link Fantastic, I had the same idea and have been working on this for years. I am no where as talanted as these guys however. I am also planning to do this in 20mm one of these days. I have all the ships now! VR James Mattes |

"Most impressive. This time I shall not underestimate the rebel scum". Looks fantastic! Wish I could attend, and play. Thanks for sharing the link. Would love to know if the turrets will be available for sale at some point. |

I have Death Star terrain for a similar game that I run down here in Florida. (@ HMGS-south's RECON and HURRICON) I have a series of 12"x12" mdf surface tiles with bunches of 3-d bits on them. The trench is made of u-shaped pieces that fit into a gap between two, standard 30" wide, 8' long tables for an overall 6'x8' gaming surface. (That way, the trench sits below the table top, rather than raising the entire Death Star surface.) All of the gun towers have magnets on the bottom that simply attach to small metal plates on the 12x12 tiles. |

David got any images? VR James Mattes |

David did a great job on it and the design is rather ingenious. What are the rules you are using, David? |

I bet that Yavin 4 gets blown up often. And yet nobody in the Rebel forces tries to just "dive bomb" the exhaust port. |

Thanks Bryan. Any comments from you on Terrain is a huge compliment. I use my own rules to get more of the cinematic effect of the movies. They are called "Rebellion in Space" and available on the SSSW yahoo group. link They are relatively fast play, lots of ships, and even more fun. I'm working on getting a blog up so that I can start posting numerous pictures. |

Also, I use the same rules (modified as "Vipers in Space") for Battlestar Galactica starship combat. The rules can be found here. link |

Coolio. Just downloaded them and requested access to the BSG group. I'll probably take a stab at RIS this winter/spring when FFG releases all the prepaints for X-Wing. |

I saw this setup at a table nearby while we were playing Retro-Raygun at Gen Con. Very nice looking setup. I had to take a few pics of it in between turns.

I should have mentioned that there were pics of my 'Death Star' game on the SSSW yahoo group in the photos section. I guess I need to break out the terrain a run a game of it again soon. |

Here's a pic of David's game using his ingenious ideas to separate the tables and use the space between for his trench.

We did it in thelate 80's using scratch built pretty much everything in 1/72nd.
The Millenium Falcon, X wings and the bodies of the tie fighters were kits (the body came from Darth's Tie fighter – the wings/panels were scratch built, as were the Y wings). We did the table slot approach too but big enough (as you can see) to stand in. The ships were mounted on telescoping car ariels in resin bases and the rules were a home built computer moderated set (on an Atari ST as I recal). Scenery was on 2ft square tiles scratched from foam packing and so forth. The shots are from Salute 90 – probably it's last appearance (or very nearly so). John T |

John Treadaway 29 Aug 2011 11:25 a.m. PST We did it in thelate 80's using scratch built pretty much everything in 1/72nd. Man that is way cool! I have enough of the 20mm Galoob ships to do this but planning on doing it on the floor with an area of about 36 feet by 12 feet. One of these days. Figured I would use sheets painted to look like the surface of the Death Star. VR James Mattes |
John Treadaway | 29 Aug 2011 12:14 p.m. PST |
It would certainly be much much easier to do nowadays with the ships that are currently available, James. John T |
vojvoda | 29 Aug 2011 12:42 p.m. PST |
Yeap! I have enough of the Galoob ships to do it. I think something like 24 X Wings and around 30 Tie Fighters, a few Tie Advance and TWO Millennium Falcons (the larger ones kids play with the 3 inch figures) and about a dozen Y wings. I even have a half dozen of the Tie Interceptors that were seen in the 3rd movie. I have made a few larger flight stands that are telescopic PVC pipes that go up to 10 feet if needed! You have to pick it up to move as the prototype with rolling canister wheels similar to office chair wheels did not work out so well. VR James Mattes |

Oh, I feel old, I think remember seeing the 1:72 version at a show back in the day
Someone also did the Battle of Hoth about the same time. |

Hoth and Yavin are soo under done. I plan to correct that in the next ten years. VR James Mattes |

Hoth was also 1:72-ish IIRC

Dammit John, you CAN'T have done it ALL before us!!! :D Sorry! I have to confess, that chap with the pony tale ois my mate Alan (now a special FX manager for TV and film work) and I mostly helped him build ships and helped run the game occasionally but it was mostly his game. I guess the Warlords group that I'm still a part of has just done alot of stuff over the last three decades. Here's another shot from the Warlords site of Alan when we were doing big ship Star Trek:
That one was at Sheffield Tripples in '92 Mind you, if you want to get really off topic with Wacky old pics, this is the same guy doing LaserTag based Live Role Play in '87
He's third from left (and I'm second from left). Ahhh – those were the days
