Found this link today, have never heard of them before. Anyone have any G-2 on them? "Star Wars X-wing", by Fantasy Flight Games link VR James Mattes |

There was a post here on TMP about this, maybe a month ago. Not a lot of details released that I know of. The BGG page for the game may have info if you go through it: link

From what I hear, the FFG booth at GenCon was jam packed around the X-Wing demo tables. Play is similar to Wings of War (a good thing in my book). The model prototypes look good. Next year release, but not sure what quarter. |

This fris the offical news from the publishers: link
X-Wing is a tactical ship-to-ship combat game in which players take control of powerful Rebel X-wings and nimble Imperial TIE fighters, facing them against each other in fast-paced space combat. Featuring stunningly detailed and painted miniatures, X-Wing recreates exciting Star Wars space combat throughout its several included scenarios. Select your crew, plan your maneuvers, and complete your mission!Whatever your chosen vessel, the rules of X-Wing facilitate fast and visceral gameplay that puts you in the middle of Star Wars fiercest firefights. Each ship type has its own unique piloting dial, which is used to secretly select a speed and maneuver each turn. After planning maneuvers, each ship's dial is revealed and executed (starting with the lowest skilled pilot). So whether you rush headlong toward your enemy showering his forward deflectors in laser fire, or dance away from him as you attempt to acquire a targeting lock, you'll be in total control throughout all the tense dogfighting action. X-Wing features a number of unique missions, and each has its own set of victory conditions; with such a broad selection of missions, only clever and versatile pilots employing a range of tactics will emerge victorious. What's more, no mission will ever play the same way twice, thanks to a range of customization options, varied maneuvers, and possible combat outcomes. Damage, for example, is determined through dice and applied in the form of a shuffled Damage Deck. Each time your fighter sustains a hit, you'll draw a card that assigns a special handicap. Was your targeting computer damaged, affecting your ability to acquire a lock on the enemy? Perhaps an ill-timed weapon malfunction will limit your offensive capabilities. Or worse yet, your pilot could be injured, compromising his ability to focus on the life-and-death struggle in which he is engaged
The X-Wing starter set includes everything you need to begin your battles, such as scenarios, cards, and fully assembled and painted ships. What's more, X-Wing's quick-to-learn ruleset establishes the foundation for a system that can be expanded with your favorite ships and characters from the Star Wars universe. VR James Mattes |

Lowest skilled pilot goes first? Sounds like somebody played Silent Death: The Next Millennium a few times
Otherwise, this sounds like fun; hope they get it right, as I am dying for an excuse to prove that the venerable Y-Wing isn't just a glorified turkey shoot for Imperial TIE pilots! Leland R. Erickson

James, very interesting indeed, including the minor kerfluffle over who designed what; I appreciate Andrea's professionalism and tact in clearing up the matter. Well, so far, I am sold, as I am a sucker for space fighter dogfight games as you can well imagine

Ditto Leland's comments, except: The Y-Wing NOT a glorified turkey shoot. Its an UN-glorified turkey shoot. No surprise, given the quality of the womp-rats the Rebels use to pilot them
Now, how long will it take our nice, new Battlestation to make Alderaan

The model prototypes look good. As I understand it, they were repaints of the WotC plastic models. Macross Martin, the Y-Wings seemed to acquit themselves as well as the X-Wings at the first Death Star. The "turkey shoot" was in the trench, and both types of fighter were humped in there. Plus, some of them have a turret with a 360degree angle of fire. |

Repaints of the WOTC models? I hope not

According to the con report, they were resin prototypes as they had a few x-wing guns snap off in the first 40mins and the GM said they were prototypes. <shrug> Clix plastic would have bent, but probably not break without serious yanking |

I spent all day Sunday on this. I have a photo interpreter background so I have some skills in this. From my analysis these are not the same, bigger and more detailed. I have a document that I will post sometime today about this. I think these are more the size of about your thumb. that makes them about 1/3 larger then Micro Machine X-Wings and almost 1/2 larger then Star Wars Miniature Battles X-Wing. Here are two images to see the size compared to a human hand. I wish I know how to insert photos in these postings? link link VR James Mattes |

James, nice. I see from the commentary that the Imperial players had taken Ilmari Juutilainen's mantra to heart, "Attack! Attack! Attack!" Paid off accordingly, it would seem
Leland R. Erickson "There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots!"

"Plus, some of them have a turret with a 360degree angle of fire." And were flying sans gunners during the Battle of Yavin due to a lack of trained personnel IIRC (from the first official Star Wars novel by Alan Dean Foster). Leland R. Erickson

BlackWidowPilot 29 Aug 2011 12:37 p.m. PST "Plus, some of them have a turret with a 360degree angle of fire." Now that I have a problem with. In my rules I have a phase where the Imperial player has to position his guns first but does get oppertunity fire. Otherwise they are too deadly for the rebels. VR James Mattes |

Interesting
Any intelligence on pricing?
Of course you have all seen the 'trench run' game posted on TMP recently
|
MacrossMartin | 29 Aug 2011 8:53 p.m. PST |
Ha HA! These rebel scum, struggling to justify sending half-trained incompetents in outdated garbage scows against the might of the Imperial Navy
Why, next thing we know, you'll be claiming this Battle Station has a design flaw, that could allow it to be destroyed by a farm-boy in a single snub-fighter
(And the trench run game looks brilliant!) |

Yes the price is looking to be $39.99 USD about what one has to pay for a good set of rules. I think once it gets into main stream markets you will see it sell for about $25.00 USD not that I know but I expect that would be fair market price. Of course I will buy it when it comes out. Obviously, the DeathStar project went to the lowest bidder. |
