Hi All. I am running a star wars rpg game
I was wondering if you all had any suggestions for alternative miniatures to use as star wars substitutes? I am not looking for movies heros (han solo
) but rather futuristric minis that I can convert to jedi, stormtroopers, droids, unarmoured troopers and civilians (male and female) |

For droids, try these guys from the Blue Moon 28mm line on the Old Glory site:
Painted right, they're got a definite Star Wars look with a bit of Ice Pirates thrown in on top. Also modular, you get a bunch of different arms and heads to mix and match on the different bodies. |

Why conversions? The StarWars figures can be had very cheaply. auction If you buy multiple figures just about all the sellers will combine shipping. Strikezone, Gaming etc., and Troll and Toad also offer the figures at reasonable prices. |

My understanding was the "official" minis were 34mm |

Mega Minis also does a bunch of robots in many different styles: link Most are closer to 25mm, though. |

Not sure that would matter for robots. |

The CMG minis will be better, cheaper, and easier to acquire, so I'd recommend just going with them. About the only guy that is really priced out of sight is Bobba Fett, in all his incarnations. |

Kremlin miniatures make a great 15mm trooper that looks a lot like a stormtrooper. |

"My understanding was the "official" minis were 34mm" And crap quality for the price. Using proxies is almost always better in such cases, especially with everyone realizing people want "Not"-figures. |

I made some very nice Stormtrooper proxies by taking Mordian Guardsmen and giving them Space Marine helmets, I used a plumed helmet from one of the Chaos Marine ranges for the commanders. Ok they aren't exactly official, but they have a nice pulp feel about them. I painted them in a dark red for the uniforms with white and green helmets. I have plenty of Rogue Trader Bounty Hunters etc which do quite nicely for rebels etc. |

If you are looking for robots or non-human aliens use the WoTC Star Wars figures. Where is it written that aliens have to be the same size as humans? I have several hundred figures. Yes some are crap, but a quick paint touch-up solved the problem. I spent less time overall touching up the pre-paints than I do painting figures from the beginning. |
