The small "mutie man Slythe" model from Ramshackle games, actually he is perfectly sized for my 25mm West Wind Gothic Horror collection. I painted him to represent the "king in yellow" as seen on the box cover of Arkham Horror: King in Yellow. I also painted the King in Yellow sign on his robe to make him a bit more interesting. link

Looks great! The concept of the King in Yellow is one of my favorite tropes from the early days of horror fiction. |

What a disappointment. I thought you were talking about the Dashiell Hammett short story. (-: |

Great paintjob on a propitious mini. Potentially a dreadful NPC! |

Thanks again guys, what I like about the Lovecraftian universe is that you can use the monsters and villains in so many game settings, from Old West, to 18th century, 1920's , modern time etc. Rarely that you get to use one collection of models for so many settings. |

I had never heard of "The King in Yellow," so I googled and found Chambers's original short stories on Project Gutenberg. Nice, atmospheric stuff. Wiki then let me catch up on the idea's later inclusion in the Lovecraft mythos, though in some ways I find Chambers's vague mystery as to who or what "the King in Yellow" is, aside from a disturbing play that apparently can induce insanity, a much better (and more chilling) approach. So thanks for setting me on the search
And great fig! |
