Part III and Final of my Trilogy of "Top Ten" Horror Movie Series.
I tried to make it as comprehensive as possible. Here is a list of ALL the Vampire movies I could find in in Alphabetical order.

If you want to cut it down GREATLY I recommend U Tube and search by top 10 Vampire movies.

Many have already narrowed it down and have the most popular ones listed.

Might be the case I just pulled the list from the web. I think I fixed it in the first two (Zombies and Werewolves). Let me check my source.

Also not your fault, but lists like this are hard to take seriously when they put titles beginning with "The" in the "t's"…

Agree and I will try and fix it before/if it goes to the poll. I have a lot of work to do to clean up the lists and edit them down some. For example Dark Shadows the series is listed and I will kill that one. I WILL leave Zombie Zombie Zombie (Zombies vs Strippers) in but it went straight to video. Only because it is on my top ten! grin

Not knowledgeable enough to quote 10, but:
*
Nosferatu: seminal, even if Bela Lugosi later determined most of the imagery;
I'm a legend' the *old* one, because I favor the 'Matheson model' of vampirism;
Life Force, for the setting;
Vampires (Carpenter) for the swashbuckling ambiance, the surgical collar and the ambiguity: good guys can turn vampire;
30 days of night for the 'wolves pack' social structure of the vampires: a 'logical' way to have a society different from ours, yet credible and self-consistent.

*Hellsing Ultimate *OAV* for the 'ambiguity': an approach of 'good' (?) vampires SO different from 'Twilight'! And a 'good', if fighting on the 'evil' side, werewolf.

*The adaptations of Sheridan Le Fanus's marvelous Carmilla en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmilla -for me a far better vampire novel than Dracula- though none is excellent: Il Sangue e la rosa, The Vampire Lovers, Lust for a Vampire and thus all Jean Rollin's vampire films link
Seemingly I prefer Elizabeth Bathory over Vlad Tepes as historical root vampire characters?

Is the Keep(1983) a vampire film?

The Gray Ghost20 Aug 2011 9:28 a.m. PST

Captain Kronos – Vampire Hunter (1974) – a Hammer film.
I liked this as a kid but don't much care for it anymore.

Fright Night (1985) probably My favorite vampire film

Love At First Bite (1979) – romantic comedy spoof starring George Hamilton. I have a real soft spot for this one.

Nosferatu (1922; starring Max Schreck) – unlicensed German adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel; featuring "Count Orlok", a thinly veiled allusion to Dracula.
Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) was Werner Herzog's remake of Murnau's silent classic. Both of these are good movies.
Shadow of the Vampire (2000) – Oscar-nominated film about the 1922 filming of Nosteratu, excellent recreation of the sets, filming and story.
I like this one because of the first two.

The Hunger (1983) Dumb
The Lair of the White Worm (1988) Dumb
Twilight (2008) Dumber

Daughter of Darkness (1990 film) This was nicely filmed with great atmosphere and Mia Sara

Les Vampires (1915) – a 10 part silent-film serial
This is about cat burglers not vampires

I agree that The Keep was not actually a vampire film, though I could see why it could be seen so.

I don't see Grey Knight, aka The Killing Box, on the list. Very low budget and not a traditional vampire flick, but I quite enjoyed it. Rogue Civil War vampire deserters, what's not to love?

Michael B20 Aug 2011 10:26 a.m. PST

I could say thay the Keep was more of a soul vampire--sucks the life right out of german soldiers..

You missed one of my favs, a recent Japanese film called 'Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl.'

Oh, and you KNOW that 'Fright Night' got remade and just came out yesterday, right? Colin Farrell's the vampire neighbor in this version. So now you can add a third Fright Night entry to your list:

Fright Night (Remake, 2011)

I did not add it as I had not seen it in the references I consulted. I will for the final list.

FWIW That movie is on my list #1 in fact of the WORST CIVIL WAR MOVIE EVER! BAR NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and you KNOW that 'Fright Night' got remade

I certain that this movie, unlike all the other 80s cult movies that have been remade, will be a huge success.

I love the old Salem's Lot (1979)

CAPTAIN BEEFHEART20 Aug 2011 4:14 p.m. PST

Lump me in with Abdul666. Same flicks but some different reasons.

Striker20 Aug 2011 7:06 p.m. PST

Old Salem's Lot. The grave digger jumping down into the grave scene and where the vampire pops up in the jail were freaky.

My favorites…

Vampyr – silent, creepy
Nosferatu – silent, creepy
Nadja – stylish and artsy
Lemora – it has a fairy-tale feel to it.
Dracula (1931)- it's got Bela, and the bit with the brides in the catacombs is classic.
Let's Scare Jessica To Death – creepy and strange, no fangs in sight.
Martin – uses a hypodermic and razor in place of hypnotic stare and fangs. Not so much scary as interesting.
Let The Right One In
Maboroshi – there's more to it than vampires though.
Cronos – Another good del Toro movie.

I also really enjoy all the early Jean Rollin vampire movies but they're very camp and not really what anyone thinks of when they think 'vampires'. They're more like John Waters movies, if Waters had decided to make gothic horror instead of urban comedy.

The Carmilla en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmilla type of vampire, while even more venerable, is indeed less well-known than the Dracula one.
[Anyway, the archetypal, iconic, image of the vampire was set by Bela Lugosi. Really a second-hand (at best) reference.]

Then, both 'seminal' types of vampires have in common that -the wishes of minis manufacturers notwithstanding- vampires cannot be visually distinguished from normal humans.

FWIW I think at least a couple of the El Santo movies were vs. vampires and werewolves.

@abdul666lw, yeah, I've never cared for the minis that shout, 'look at me! I'm a VAMPIRE !!!'… unless they're the Nosferatu sort. Just make them creepy/seductive looking and leave the walrus tusks at home.

Two of my faves not on the list:

Lips of Blood (French, 1974)
imdb.com/title/tt0073324

Mr.Vampire (Geung si sin sang, 1985)
imdb.com/title/tt0089371
Plus sequels, but I've only seen and really enjoyed the first.

I always liked he two "Count Yorga" movies. Maybe not in the top 10 but still fun to watch :)

Anything other than Twilight movies?

Don't know if I have ten, since I always considered the two-legged-tick genre to be woefully overrated.
When it is good, though, it tends to be very, very good.
My favorites are:

1. Near Dark (the most believable vampires ever put on film, and therefore the most frightening)
2. Fright Night (the original; haven't seen the remake yet, but looking forward to it)
3. Daybreakers (perfect depiction of exactly how society really would deal with "immortality")
4. The Last Man on Earth (to date, still the best film version of "I Am Legend"; more's the pity since Will Smith was excellent in an otherwise awful miscarriage of a great story)
5. Interview with the Vampire (woefuly underrated performances by Pitt and Cruise portraying "vampires" as the self-absorbed, self-centered creatures they always were, even before they ever started drinking blood)
6. Count Dracula (I've only seen bits and pieces of Louis Jordan's perfect depiction of Stoker's samguinary Count, but what I have seen was excellent)
7. Night Watch/Day Watch (vampires figure prominently in these films, but the supernatural in general is depicted in a fascinating way)
8. Curse of the Undead (horrible title for a very well-paced tale of a vampire gunslinger in a small Old west town; a "weird west" yarn of the first magnitude, far better than any that have come along since)
9. Shadow of the Vampire (just plain brilliant in every way)
10. Buffy the Vamppire Slayer (partly because it gave the world Joss Whedon, but mostly because Kristy Swanson changed my whole attitude about blondes)
HONORABLE MENTION: Atom Age Vampire (cheesy Italian horror flick (is there any other kind?) that nevertheless filled a couple of hours in regular local TV re-runs when I was a kid)
