Hi guys, another future project I am considering is a a 15mm Space Marine army, but with the 12 foot warrior concept, there will need to be a bit of GS work to get anything to look like a Space marine and to get the right size I guess they should even be converted from 20mm or 1/72 figs, or big 15mm figs, anyone know of figs that have the right body armour and size for a conversion? would have to add the shoulder armour and helmets I would think, thinking of using a normal GW dred as the dred, 1/72 M113s could be converted into Rhinos, anything else that can be used?

Space Marines are 7-8' tall, depending on the fluff. Not sure where you're getting the 12' reference.

I'm not sure what you're going to find in 20mm. If you're looking for something that does, and you're okay with using some greenstuff anyway, I'd look at some of the "heavier" 15mm PA figures available. The Laserburn Dreadnought Armored Troopers at 15mm.Co.Uk (Imperial Troopers and Redemptionist sections) are just about right. Third from the left in this picture:

Another good option would be the Kremlin Red Banner MANITOU. If you remove the shoulder-mounted missile launchers, the proportions are just about perfect: link

Yeah 12' is an exageration but I just meant big, the GW ones are supposed to be big and aren't so I went the other way, O like both your examples, do you know how big the Red banner ones are? they look promising. I thought of using 1/72 plastic figs as dollys and sculpting them but it would be a lot of work to make a whole army

I have had Blue Moon's Orion Republic Heavy Infantry suggested to me.

Yeah I can see some similarities, but the whole helmet area is wrong, any Idea how big these are?

15mm.co.uk's HoF line has their Retained Knights (similar to beaky marines) that tower over most 15mm figures.

My Retained Knights painted up as Mortifactors, pictured with GZG's Free Trader Grease Monkey and a Japanese Corporate Marine.

12' is GW Fanboy Insane Troll Logic.

If you want 12' Space Marines, just use GW marines in 15mm games. :P

Those retinue knights look pretty good.

Hi Psyckosama, I am probably the furthest thing from a GW fan boy, I dislike the company immensly, however don't mind some of the fluff, hense me selling all my GW stuff off, and doing 40K in 15mm, the 12' thing was incorrect as I've already stated above, and I don't think I've ever trolled in my life.

@Gunner – He's not calling you a troll, it's a trope:

I would also agree on useing the 15mm.co.uk Retained Knights for beaky Space marines.

clkeagle20 Aug 2011 3:52 a.m. PST

Yeah, the Retained Knights have the right backpack and shoulderpads. You could even lop the heads off and sculpt any version of Space Marine helmet you desire.

I just posted a fairly comprehensive list of human Power Armor options on Dropship Horizon: link

When I dabbled briefly in 15mm I picked up some retained knights and some laserburn imperials. To my eye, The imperials looked the part a bit more, but the HOF retained knights were more the size and based on the detail, the molds were in much better condition. Also, the mideival look of the helmets really gives them a cool pre-heresy vibe.

Every now and again, you can find MJ Miniatures, now sadly defunt, 15mm space marines. They are excellent sculpts and dead ringers for MKVII marines in PA.

Psyckosama20 Aug 2011 5:43 p.m. PST

The Scene picked them up along with their Orks.

Then they stopped selling them :(

clkeagle20 Aug 2011 5:52 p.m. PST

The ex-MJ marines were pretty small for what the Gunner Dunbar was looking for… they stand just a hair shorter than most 15mm sci-fi infantry. Great sculpts and poses though.

I've got 1:72 M113 fire support in my 15mm collection its a little large against Laserburn figures. HOF probably scale fractionally better being taller.

I also own a couple 1:87 M113's, which come across as a bit weedy for specific Rhino stand ins.

Farstar22 Aug 2011 10:02 a.m. PST

Space Marines are supposed to be big, but not THAT big. If we assume the woman in this picture is 5-foot-something, the Marine is about 8 feet tall in armor.

Note that this picture is a fan piece, and is considered a bit of an exageration by many. It is what comes to mind when people talk about giant Space Marines, though.

Lampyridae22 Aug 2011 11:20 p.m. PST

These guys have almost the perfect MKVII helmets. I would put light UNSC helmets on them to make them Tau, then put their helmets on something with a suitable body.

Maybe like this.

Hi Lampyridae your onto something there, I am already going to make some Tau from the Felids, will think about that.
