Hi All
I'm actually trying to assemble a Dutch Belgian / Netherlands / Nassau force for wargaming purposes. I'm particularly interested in the 2nd Dutch-Belgian Division
under LTG Perponcher at Quatre Bras. I'm determined to use the beautiful PERRY miniatures and was keen to make sure I match the correct miniatures to the appropriate units.

Can anyone confirm if:
1st Bn, 2nd Nassau Regt (903);and
2nd Bn, 2nd Nassau Regt (903); and
3rd Bn, 2nd Nassau Regt (903),
can all be suitable represented by the Perry miniatures codes 2nd Nassau-Usingen Regt NN9 to NN12

And likewise:
1st Bn, 28th Orange-Nassau Regt (795); and
2nd Bn, 28th Orange-Nassau Regt (796)
can all be suitable represented by the Perry miniatures Orange-Nassau Regt, Codes NN2-4

Finally
Will the Perry Miniatures Volunteer Jager company skirmishing Code NN13 do for the Freiwillige Jaeger Detachment (172)?

Please see:
perry-miniatures.com/index2.html
perry-miniatures.com/index2.html
and click on the 'Napoleonic Nassau Contingent 1815' range to see exactly what figures I'm refering to.

I think I havethe Dutch and Belgians sorted. ;o)
Many thanks in advance.
I should add I'm currently OS with the Army, so getting access to the 'net' to do research of my own is problamatic, (hence my request for assistance here)
Regards
Scott

Yes they are specifically for those units

Artilleryman19 Aug 2011 12:36 a.m. PST

Yes. The Perrys did good research on these 'smaller' Napoleonic players.

Hi Scott

I love the blue and orange of the Dutch, it will be a nice looking army.

trailape19 Aug 2011 1:19 a.m. PST

Thank Guys
I will send off the Order to the Perrys soon then

Hi Danl
Yep, a very nice looking army I think. I won't be able to do them justice as you would, but they will make a nice contrast to my Brits. That's also why I'm after two more Highlander battalions, but a little less 'campaign' weary than the guys your doing for me at present.
;o)
I also really like the look of the Dutch and Begian heavy Cavalry. the Perry's have done some brilliant work with these, (though I suspect they only fought at Waterloo, not Quatre Bras).
Cheers
Scott

They are the codes I used. Just avoid the 1st Nassau as they are depicted wearing white shako covers, removed by the 2nd supposedly as presenting too good a target. This link will take you to my Website and images of the unit painted for me by Carl Robson.

Hi Flight
Your miniatures look magnificent. I can only imagine what they must have cost. Mr Robson has done a brilliant job!
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers
Scott

I've got some pics up too recently of my chaps if you are interested:

2nd Nassau-Usingen Regiment

28th Oranien-Nassau Regiment

My understanding is that the volunteer jagers wore exactly the same uniform as the second nassau.

Why would a manufacturer mfr a separate jager set? Is it just a matter of poses?

trailape06 Oct 2011 8:07 p.m. PST

Very very nice.
I Hope my chaps look half as good.
If you don't mind sharing what are your base dimensions?
Cheers
Scott

They also carry rifles I believe.

trailape07 Oct 2011 3:34 a.m. PST

Yep, Rifle armed.

I didn't think anyone knew for certain what uniform they wore…?

Why would a manufacturer mfr a separate jager set? Is it just a matter of poses?

Yes – you want nice live action poses – plus some poses may need to be different regardless, because they are armed with rifles so certain actions/positions for loading are slightly different, etc, plus the gun of course should be shorter, no bayonet, etc, etc…

Very very nice. I Hope my chaps look half as good. If you don't mind sharing what are your base dimensions?

Hi Scott – thanks and yes they do, but as mentioned in my post I did commission DPS to paint them so you'd expect them to be up there.

laugh

The basing is 50mm x 50mm square with 6 figures per base – which is the recommended basing for Lasalle, but is also compatible with Shako II, and a couple of other Napoleonic Sets. Cavalry are on the same size bases (with 2 figs) and I have just decided to put my Artillery on the same size as well (typically a Gun & 3 figs) – I had my arty on double deep bases for more room to vignette-ise, etc, but the depth didn't look right compared to the cavalry and such (plus ws a very minor rules disadvantage). The main bases I use are 3mm MDF (precision cut by local supplier in NZ) and/or 3mm Plywood from Litko – the skirmisher bases are 3mm Plywood Litko "Pill" bases, 50mm wide & 25mm deep.

The 3mm high base gives plenty to grip for handling and leaves room for an ID label on the rear – see a couple of my Lasalle game reports for Photos to see my labels and how I previously had my Artillery based:

Lasalle in the Hundred Days

The Hundred Days Continues…

FWIW I have just this afternoon taken some quick photos of Bylandt's 1st Dutch-Belgian Brigade (7th Belgian Line, 27th Dutch Jager, 5th, 7th, & 8th Dutch Militia), Byleveld's & Stievnarr's Batteries, the 2 Brunswick Artillery Batteries (Heinemann's & Moll's), and my 5 rebased British & Hanoverian Batteries – which I'll hope to progressively post up on my blog over the next week or two.

If you are interested in the Brunswicker's as well as the Dutch/Nassau chaps there's also some pics of 5 of my 8 Infantry Battalions & the Duke in this game report:

The Crossroads

Anyway – hope the latter's of some interest or use…

thumbs up

Mycenius10 Oct 2011 12:08 p.m. PST

Just FWIW I've now posted some work-in-progress pics of basing up Bijlandt's 1st Netherlands Brigade for Lasalle.

trailape11 Oct 2011 5:09 a.m. PST

Very nice.
I've adopted the 50mm square bases myself, as I've concluded that the 45mm bases just won't do for Artillery.
Thanks for helping me decide.
Also, 24 fig battalions look better than 16.
BTW, I'm very interested in your Bruswickers.
Cheers
Scott

Mycenius11 Oct 2011 12:30 p.m. PST

Cheers Scott – yes I'm busy rebasing my British Artillery onto 50mm squares right now, as I'm basing up my Brunswick & Netherlands arty and decided not to put them onto deeper 50mm x 100mm bases as I originally planned…
