What is 1" Scale?

When talking about doll houses and trains?

What does that convert to in miniatures talk?

25mm?

John the OFM18 Aug 2011 6:21 p.m. PST

1" scale comes from the drawing convention that 1" = 1' ON THAT DRAWING. So, it is 1/12.
Similarly 1/2" scale is 1/24, and 1/4" scale is 1/48.
1/6" scale is 1/72, so is closer to 25mm, if you follow the convention that a 6' tall man is a 1" tall figure to the top of the head or 25mm tall. Naturally, this is discussed along with "but on the other hand, Airfix and Minifigs and Scruby yadda yadda yadda…"

"English" architect's triangular cross section "rulers" have this as one of the scales.
