Beautifull ship!.
More pics on main page link Hope you enjoy!. Question: On board the real ship, the cranes are yellow?. Amicalement Armand |

1) Yes, the cranes are really yellow. That's the color that ground support equipment (cranes, tow tractors, start carts, et cetera) gets painted in the navy, they call it all "yellow gear." 2) Except in one bad movie, USS Nimitz never served during WW2. |

Thanks Cpt Arexu. That color is for the pilots? Amicalement Armand |

I don't recall F-4 Phantom's being deployed on Nimitz either? |

They did it on shore too, so I think it is just an institutional choice of color. Based on image searches for Navy tow tractors (and the model itself – you can see a tow tractor at the bow and two more pulling the E-2 and A3-D into position for the catapults) they don't paint all the tows yellow anymore. I found a variety of colors. |

It's theoretically possible in that the ship first sailed at the end of 1976, and the fleet was still transitioning from F-4's to F-14's. They may have flown side by side in different squadrons of the same air group. |

Different tugs are owned by different groups, so the firefighting tugs are white w/ red stripes, IIRC, and bomb tugs are red, for example. Regular aircraft-movers are supposed to be yellow, however. |
