there needs to be some more vocabulary to describe Powered Armor in all it's incarnations.

I agree with that.

I remember there being a metal miniature of the MADOX-01 powered suit, not sure what scale it was made at. It was featured in an old garage kit catalog I had years ago. Now looking back it would have made an awesome PA in games.

Didn't GZG have 25mm miniatures of the Bubblegum Crisis hard suits at one time? I'd have rather had a miniature of the K12 from that anime series.

LOL, pretty much variations on a theme. I think they are by the same designer.

My favourite power armour is the M.a.K SAFS, love the round shapes and stumpy legs.

I still have the original Minifigs power armoured Space Marines from the mid 70's [Played "Marine" back then too, well before GW hove into view]

These fit well with 15mm.

When I think of Sci Fi infantry i think of PA first ass the rest are just crew and supports [or targets!]

Yes … ever since Marvel's Ironman comic and now … movies … evil grin

Iron Man is cool, but he is definitely a superheroic version of power armor. I think we could use more miltiarized looking power armor.

Yes power armour is still popular and I don't see that changing any time soon.

They made Drone Power Armor for all the US Branches of the Military in second of the Ironman movies … evil grin

They made Drone Power Armor for all the US Branches of the Military in second of the Ironman movies …

They did, but I'm pretty sure all of the relevant figures came in an expensive multi-pack with one or more versions of Iron Man. Otherwise I'd have quite a few drone armor-based combat walkers. Forty different flavors of Iron Man, and a handful of drones, what a truly terrible way to execute a toy line!

You can find the individual Iron Man drones on Ebay, and at reasonable prices.

My personal definition of Pwer Armour is that it's a suit or armour – the wearer's head is in the helmet, his arms and legs are in the arms and legs of the armour, etc. There's obviously grey areas – the Viridian Shock Marines from Urban War have an unnaturally long right forearm, so the hand is clearly operating a "waldo" inside the suit. Tactical Dreadnought Armour from 40K is probably one of the largest examples of Power Armour in miniatures games by that definition. Stuff like Dreadnoughts (controlled by neural links), Sentinels or the GEars from Heavy Gear (controlled by traditional hand and foot controls) are walking vehicles, to my mind. Likewise with the piloted T.A.G.s from Corvus Belli's Infinity; those are either remotely piloted or have the pilot in a torso cockpit controlling the limbs via waldoes.

The movie Iron Man armour would look a lot more "military" if it wasn't bright red and gold. :)

The Drones in the second movie were in various camos …

I think I have/had a few of the Bubblegum Crisis PA figures. As I never much cared for power armor, it was never painted. They still don't call to me.

Gawd, I hope Power Armor are still in with the in crowd…otherwise, I'm going to have some very annoyed clients. ;)

Best,

Well … JBR … are you doing those "ill fated" WGF 'bots in 6mm ? evil grin

John Bear Ross18 Aug 2011 9:23 a.m. PST

As far as I know, WGF (or whomever took them over) still owns those particular builds.

I've tried to make overtures to buy them back, but heard back nothing. I'm more than interested in getting them to market, that's for sure, in 6mm and 15mm.

Best,
JBR

Well … we can hope … WGF, really dropped the ball on that project …

We desperately need Alien PowerArmours and Battlesuits (of KM Felids and CM Naga).

GZG Heavy Powerarmoured UNSC Infantry would be wholeheartedly welcomed.

clkeagle20 Aug 2011 7:06 a.m. PST

@Umpapa: I'd love to see a unit pack of Felid power armor based on the Baron figure.

Is power armour still popular? You bet it is!

Lion in the Stars20 Aug 2011 7:16 p.m. PST

About a third of all the Infinity lines combined are powered armor, and there are 1-2 heavy suits (the size class I call landmates) times 7 factions. Or more, since one faction has an unholy fascination with TAGs. They have 7 different types of TAGs available to them, and 10 different power armored troops (but you will never see all of them on the field at the same time)! My preferred faction, Yu Jing, has 9 kinds of manned powered armor, plus two that are remote-presence!

In smaller scales, it's a bit tougher. I happen to prefer 'lighter' PA (like a Lockheed HULC exo with soft armor over the top), but that's hard to differentiate from an ordinary infantryman visually.

Wartopia20 Aug 2011 7:27 p.m. PST

Lion,

I had the same reaction to the infinity PA. Looks more like regular infantry in full body armor.

I still love the models and in spite of their cost built decent sized units for platoon level fights. I even love the TAGs! :-)

Rottenlead21 Aug 2011 11:35 a.m. PST

I really enjoying using Powered Armour in games. GZG have a good range with and the Khurasan ones are classic as detailed above.

In this game we played at the Warfare convention last year you can see some GZG FSE powered armour about to embark a VTOL. It is a lot of fun dropping some heavy PA into some of the hot spots in battle because they can take more of a beating and carry a couple of micro missile systems.
