Was anyone aware that Cool Mini or Not was owned by New Wave Miniatures? The web site notorious for ripping people off. I was shocked when I found out. |

LOL...!!! Oh Boy...who else has known for-ev-er...prolly why a lot of us artist don`t respect that place. BME (who was banned from the their forumes there for call`n a turd a stink lump...oh yeah...and I said that the sky was blue, also...lol!) |

It has been discussed before. However, the CMON site is managed completely differently. For example, if you order something out of stock you are _not_ charged until they get it in and ship it, unlike New Wave, who charge you for everything immediately even if they don't expect some of the figs for six monthes. I have ordered from CMON four times now, and the service could not have been more professional.

If one hand is giving and the other hand is stealing, do they balance each other out? I admit too that I've never had a problem with CMON (3 orders), but, to keep David Doust and his fellow bandits in business just doesn't seem right somehow. |

Well, I have never heard definitively what the connection is, for one thing, and for another, if NW business falls off because of their crappy performance, buy CMoN does well, then that would be a good example of both positive and negative reinforcement. Don't know if the two sites are ultimately owned by the same person; given the way they handle business I am confident they are not _managed_ by the same person!

Seems New Wave has there fingers in alot of pies. CMON, Dark Age, Dakkon0_0 etc. are ther any other sites affiliated with them? |
Editor in Chief Bill | 12 Jun 2004 6:25 p.m. PST |
New Wave lists the following as "affiliates": The Stuff of Legends solegends.com Dirk Stiller's The Miniature Gallery theminiaturegallery.de Zilo's PaintingPlace link ( not updated for a few months ) And some other sites that seem to be dead. I was rather surprised to see that The Stuff of Legends is somehow tied to New Wave. I wonder what this "affiliate" business is all about. |
Editor in Chief Bill | 12 Jun 2004 6:29 p.m. PST |
And, reciprocally, The Stuff of Legends includes an endorsement of New Wave, listed under "Web Retailers that we have found useful." solegends.com/sources.htm |

Also the Great Wargames Gateway site seems to be tied to them ( lists them as links in their headings ) gwgateway.com |

And here's an odd one – NBC channel 5 in Chicago??? link |
Editor in Chief Bill | 12 Jun 2004 6:42 p.m. PST |
Web-Grognards lists them in their links for "Online wargame shops and trading posts" – but does have a reminder at the top of the page that customers should do some research before ordering ( on any webshop ) . grognard.com/shops.html |

There also appears to be a relationship between TheWarp.net and New Wave - again, TheWarp lists Coolminiornot, gwgateway, and New Wave in their headings. TheWarp also carries advertising from Coolminiornot. Interestingly, the domain registration for TheWarp lists an obviously faked address: TheWarp Networks (THEWARP2-DOM) 123 TheWarp Ave. Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043-2728 (Mountlake Terrace exists, but not surprisingly, there's no TheWarp Ave...) |

GWGateway has the same admin contact as TheWarp (somebody named C. Scott McKeighen), but the registrant is in Michigan rather than Washington. New Wave is registered by Stacy or David Doust, depending which of their URL's you look up. |

CMON is sponsored by New Wave, they pay for the web space, at least that was the way I understood it. The only problem I have with that is that the moderator at CMON feels obligated to censor/edit/ban anyone who badmouths New Wave in return. Consequently, unless you're discussing paint technique the forums are pretty worthless. It's nice to have TMP as a place to be able to bring things like bad customer service into the light. |

Coolminiornot.com Ana Donia of Cumming, GA, is the registrant. The administrative contact is CHERN ANN NG in Singapore. According to their FAQ: "CoolMiniOrNot was inspired by HotOrNot.com and similiar sites, and was the brainchild of David Doust (borg)....Ng Chern Ann started a revised script on littlebrush.com with much needed features that would benefit CoolMiniOrNot. David contacted Chern Ann, the two struck a deal to share the site..." So it appears that David Doust "shares" ownership of Coolminiornot? |

Well thanks, everyone. I will surely keep these places in mind when ordering. I have a $45 grudge against New Wave and do not want to support them or any affiliates with them in any way. |
Stone Cold Lead | 13 Jun 2004 8:30 a.m. PST |
I wouldn't get too upset about CMON being 'affiliated' with certain sites. As far as I know, most such affiliations are simply ones of advertising. I've never known CMON to remove complaints about New Wave from the site either. I recall a number of posts from people complaining about being shafted by NW! As for BME, we all know that you were banned for making personal attacks on members and being excessively noisy on the forums (it's not funny to have to scroll down through several screens worth of smilies just to get to the end of the topic!). |

Holy! Children please! Chern Ann runs the site. He is the man. Just because New Wave is a sponsor who freaking cares.. I am sick of the bashing... If you don't like New Wave, don't buy from em, but stop trying to incite viscious rumours about everything that has their name on it. Chern runs the site and everythign goes through him. |
blackscribe | 13 Jun 2004 1:09 p.m. PST |
I like Newwave better than CMON. If I have a problem with Newwave, Doust at leasts responds some time or another with something I want to hear -- even if it does later turn out to be a falsehood. If I have a problem with CMON (such as them not enforcing their own policies on some people, but bringing the hammer down on others), then I'll never get a reply from Chern. |
Zaphod Beeblebrox | 14 Jun 2004 5:43 a.m. PST |
Yes, I have issues with pornographic entries at CMoN but aside from that... |
nazrat | 14 Jun 2004 12:19 p.m. PST |
Blackscribe-- so what I'm hearing is that you'd rather be lied to than ignored... hmm. I'd rather have NEITHER. 8)=

[Just because New Wave is a sponsor who freaking cares..] New Wave appears to be the founding partner, not just a sponsor. (See above.) |

Scenario: My domain is owned by Chaosmailorder.com not by me. They are an excellent company I believe, but if hypathetically they were not, then would folks start beating on me and my site just because they own my domain? I am just saying that CMON is NOT New Wave, even if they are owned by the same guy... Sheesh. And Joe, you were banned for being loud, rude and beligerent. Hate to say it but it's true. |
Cherper | 15 Jun 2004 8:04 a.m. PST |
I had a thread deleted on the CMON, for simply saying to research companies before you buy from them and to check out the Yahoo minidealerdiscussion group. I never mentioned New Wave, but the post was deleted, and I received a nasty little e-mail saying that I had posted about a banned topic, and would lose my rights to post if I did so again. So if you do want to hear lots of horror stories about NW and get the run down on good businesses check out link |

So is Cool Mini or Not reputable or not? |
