Probably only of interest to Brits of a certain age I've started a Blake's 7 mini-project using 3D printed models from Admiral Duck Sauce at Shapeways.

Finished the Liberator and some Chase craft so far:

Hope you like them.

That is too cool. Great job.

I think you're underestimating the popularity of Blake's 7 a bit. It may not be as well known as, say, Doctor Who, but it's not really obscure. Not like it's Silver and Steel or the Tomorrow People. :)

Great paint jobs, reagrdless. Your comments about WSF and the sponge effect are true if you use enough primer, but one of the nice things about the material is that it doesn't really need it. The "grab factor" of the WSF is huge, and if you don't prime you can get some neat fade effects by using washes. On a bright white ship, sure, prime, you want it smooth and even, but on other projects it can be better to leave it off and paint-then-wash right on the bare model. Can't do that safely with metal or resin (or the Shapeways Deatail materials, for that matter). And yeah, it sure does let you make some impossible shapes, and sturdy too.

Blakes 7 wow that takes me back a few years ! Villa , Avon and what now seem very iffy special effects ! It was the highlight of tv viewing back then and one of the few programs that the whole family watched !

Wasn't that 'Sapphire and Steel'? Or am I missing a cult classic somewhere?

However… you have reminded me that I have a series of Blakes 7 still to watch on DVD… break out the wobbly cardboard sets and the gravel pit grin

Well, Silver and Steel will require some googling, but The Tomorrow People I can remember.

Blake was the public TV follow on for a lot of folks that got hooked on the fourth Dr Who, so there's a bigger US crowd than you might think.

I've a couple/three toy microphones ('talk into one end and listen to the coil vibrate…') waiting transformation, should I find enough companions. ;->=

I don't remember 'chase craft', though. For the show, fondness intact, details patchy.

And, yes, we like them.

Doug

Edit: OMG, you can toss names and leave out Servalan?!?!?

Servalan, ah…

skinkmasterreturns10 Aug 2011 10:54 a.m. PST

I remember watching it a few times on PBS around 1990 or so.

Oop, you're right, Silver and Steel was a trashy comic, the British scifi series I was trying to ref was Sapphire & Steel (and a greatly under-rated series it was, too). Must not type responses while listening to Daily Show, distracting.

Jason O Mahony10 Aug 2011 11:03 a.m. PST

Definitely, Sapphire and Steele.

Loved Blakes 7 and still do. Avidly watched it on BBC1…now that takes me back a few years :)

I don't remember the chase craft either but you know memory and age. Though not bad enough to forget Servalan!

Servalan……is there a sculptor out there that can do her? So to speak ;)

TheCount10 Aug 2011 11:30 a.m. PST

Nice job on those craft. You could get a job at the BBC!
Regards, TC.

Well, a trip to the google well was eye-opening. Just when I think I've expanded my impression of Lumley, me being stuck on the Ab Fab version, I hear about something like this.

I suppose finding Reg 1 video is impossible; she who must be obeyed is a McCallum fan.

Two great minds, in ALL ways…

Hey, Steve? Gonna do an Orac?

Saphire and Steel was weird but in a very good way. She was also a New Avenger :).

Another Yank fan of Blake's 7.

chronoglide10 Aug 2011 3:09 p.m. PST

Silver was a character in Sapphire and Steel, along with Lead, I think in one episode…

Nice work! I paid a visit to Shapeways and spenta whole night browsing their site. There's some really nice stuff there.

I remember watch Blakes 7 as a kid here in Australia back in the late 70's and have a couple of the toys by Corgi. I still have them packed away somewhere. One was a white liberator and the other a blue-steel coloured vesion.

Rassilon10 Aug 2011 8:41 p.m. PST

Sweet!!!

StarfuryXL511 Aug 2011 11:42 p.m. PST

I have an old die cast version of that Liberator, but I believe it was a Matchbox toy and not credited to Blake's 7.
