What are the options in 15mm for 1980s WARPAC vrs NATO. Both Infantry and Vehicles. Who makes them, who makes the nicest figs? Looking at the Cold War supplement for Force on Force coming out this Fall. Thanks William |

QRF have a fine range of 15mm AFVs etc and figures to equip all, Tally Ho! |

QRF, Skytrex/Old Glory (i.e. the Command Decision range) and Old Glory 15s (i.e. the old Quality Castings range) all make Cold War era vehicles, with QRF and Old Glory 15s also doing infantry. Peter Pig also have generic figures in their AK47 that are suitable for various nations (particularly Warpac). Infantry figures are the main problem for this era. QRF's superb West German range is probably the most complete, but there is precious little else available – just the odd pack here and there. However, Geoff at QRF is slowly expanding their range, so we live in hope for a decent range of Soviets, British, US, Canadians, etc, to match the West Germans. |

Working on more modern ranges at the moment (French in the factory, Chinese in front of me), but hope to do more 1980s figures shortly. quickreactionforce.co.uk |

QRF probably has the most comprehensive range of Vehicles and infantry. They cover almost everything for the Soviets and much of the what is needed for the primary players in NATO. Look in both their Post War and Modern ranges. Check the photos for quality, many of their models are outstanding, some older models are a little rough. You will also find GeoffQRF above to be possibly the best product support guy in the hobby for QRF questions and help. Old Glory have a nice selection, though somewhat hit and miss for Soviet, US, and UK. Check their Post-War and Vietnam Lines for equipment and inf depending on what part of the 1980's you game. I've found their vehicles to generally be nice models, but some of the infantry are big, small, or odd poses, though the infantry pricing is very favorable. Peter Pig Rang 17 Africa and Middle East have a number of useful models. There are a a mix of vehicles, and some of the infantry will work, particularly for Soviets. Quality Castings makes a pretty large line for US and Soviet vehilces and infantry. I generalli like their vehicles, though some are better than others. Their line was originally marketed as 1/108 scale so sometimes their models may seem a little small, as the ose companies above generally subscribe to the 1/100 scale version of 15mm. The QC infnatry will be smaller than those above. I have used a few to fill in gaps, but nect to any of the above, they look like kids. That said, their infantry line is pretty comprehensive. Dragon's Hoard (also known by other names, as the line has changed hands) makes a small line of Soviets and Afghan infantry, and UK inf and a few vehicles for the Falklands. I have SOviet and Afghan infantry, some of which are pretty nice, some figs a bit small. All of the above companies can be found or chased down with little work in the Manufacturer's Directory here on TMP. |

Dragon's Hoard (also known by other names, as the line has changed hands) makes a small line of Soviets and Afghan infantry Dragons Hoard was acquired by Gateshead Gaming. That was the old MJ Figres range, which then seemed to disappear. Part of the MJ range was sold off. There are rumours that it is coming back, but nothing seen so far. |

I'm doing the very same project in 15mm a 1980's (pre reactive armor) time period. I brought a lot of samples from several companies and here is the summary of how things are turning out. West German Leopard I and II (QRF) – Very nice and good quality Marder IFV (QRF ) – Nice. The turret cannon will need a brass rod replacement. Jaguars (QRF) – Models on the way Infantry (QRF) – Excellent. The Post war West German line is of the better lines very close to Peter Pig American M60 (QRF) – Good. I haven't put them together yet M113 (Old Glory) – excellent sculpts and quality M1s (QRF) – one the way Bradley IFV (Irishserb) – Excellent models Infantry (Peter Pig) – Using the USMC figs, a little later than the time period I'm looking at but the miniature quality won out. The Quality casting figs are good castings but are very small compared to QRF and Peter Pig. The packs have M60s and Dragon ATGMs which Peter Pig doesn't have. Soviet BMP 1 (Old Glory) – Very nice good casting T-64 (QRF) – Good, beat out the Old glory one because their T-72 turret was seemed too small. BMP 2 (QRF) – None ordered BTR (Old Glory) – not ordered yet BRMD (Old Glory) – not ordered yet Infantry (Peter Pig) – Excellent, but later equipment than Soviets of 1980's but at this scale it all works. The AT4 fagot teams are from QRF. British Challenger I (Old Glory) – Excellent FV432 (Old Glory) – not ordered yet Scimitars (QRF) – Not ordered yet Infantry (QRF) – Not ordered yet. I'm really hoping if QRF re does his 1980s British they are the same quality as his post war West Germans. I must also add that QRF is very much a top performer in the customer support front. He is very good about emails and if a product has castings issues or the owner breaks the gun tube by accident and begs he has stepped up to replaced it. Hope that helps |

Great news Geoff – just to clarify, does this mean you will be revisiting your SLR armed Brit Infantry, and can you give some idea of the time scale please? |

Yes
and can you give some idea of the time scale please? No, it depends on lots of other things, but we are hoping for early autumn |

HUZZAH; HUZZAH; HUZZAH! Do you have an enews letter, and/or will you be announcing this great good news on this site? |
GeoffQRF | 07 Aug 2011 1:55 a.m. PST |
No, everybody knows we just sneak stuff into the lists and rely on people finding it and announcing it for us :-) We do have an e-newsletter if you are subscribed to it on our website, although we only use it occasionally to avoid spamming people too much. I do (usually) run a list of new releases on here (once Chas has found time between moulding and casting to give me some photos) and on the yahoo group. |

Geoff, do you have a US distributor? I think I recall it being Scale Creep, but it looks like Mark is on hiatus for a short bit. |
