Wondering what make of cars were in Mogadishu, were they a mix of western or from the soviet bloc?, got some Int pictures which show a lot of vehicles but can't make out what type, besides a few toyotas. |

Watch Blackhawk Down. Can't tell from memory but the dominant factors are dirt, rust, and bullet holes. |

Cars seem to be in short supply in any photos I have found, the majority of "civilian" vehicles are pick-up trucks and those Lost In Space looking Toyota minivans. The cars i have pics of would fall into "sedan/generic" category, a Toyota Corolla looking vehicle, something that looks like a Lad or Riga (Soviet built FIATS, think of that reliability factor)and dark rusting blobs on the streets of Mogadishu. You could use Blackhawk Down as a source but bear in mind that the film is actually shot in Morocco. Myself, I have accumulated VW Bugs, some Datsun sedans, some of the Toyota minivans of the time, a microbus etc. And then distressed the heck out of them. Hope this was of some help. Pat |

There was a dump truck that had a four barrel anti-aircraft gun in it, that was 1994 when I was there. |
