Has the OFM died? What's with all the dedications?

Cardinal Hawkwood03 Aug 2011 4:53 a.m. PST

an act of public support..I'd rather not get any further involved in all the toxic threads going around..

Fair enough. I got fed up with the whole thing and turned off the talk about TMP board TMP is now a better place … well for me.

Getting back on topic. Those south American liberation wars have always appealed to me kind of napoleonics, which have never done much for me on the wargaming front, without Napoleon.

Cardinal Hawkwood03 Aug 2011 5:23 a.m. PST

they are very interesting ,somewhere I have more articles that I will endeavour to find and post up..

kingscarbine03 Aug 2011 5:29 a.m. PST

Thumbs up!

Cardinal Hawkwood03 Aug 2011 5:35 a.m. PST

you get lots of Spanish to fight them..and Bolivar of course..

Grizzlymc03 Aug 2011 1:38 p.m. PST

And besides Bolivar, some real Generals like San Martin, O'Higgins and Miller!

Cardinal Hawkwood03 Aug 2011 4:03 p.m. PST

well yes..this is San Martin's army after all

Happy Wanderer04 Aug 2011 3:21 a.m. PST

….why go without Napoleon in South America…

Have a look at this

…an interesting what if, however, I find the Liberator Wars interesting enough without the great Frenchman.

Looks good. Although you really should buy at least a Supporting Membership if you're going to advertise here.

If I knew the history better I'd be interested. I recently read a good biography of Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna that was an eye opener. And I just read that an Argentine privateer (pirate?) raided Spanish California during the Independence Wars. But my Spanish is very poor. Can you recommend a good general history of the Independence Wars in English?

Ditto with zippyfusenet. I would certainly like to know of the history of the liberation wars in South America.

If you are interested, here is my blog post with a list of key books and resources for the period:

In addition, john Fletcher has brought out an excellent Essential Histories book for the South American Wars of Independence:
