I've posted a battle report of a SBH fight with warbands that had SDS factors (largely Q4/C2, apart from personalities who were at best Q3/C3): link It may have been a fluke, but gruesome hits were more common and shooting more deadly, especially aimed shots. I note that SDS only has gruesome hits affect 'Green' troops. I wonder if some modification to the rule might be needed if Q4/C2 was taken as a baseline. It was a fun game, and I'm keen to get a few more games soon. Mark |

Well I persisted and checked out the blog to find out what the acronyms were. Song of Blades and Heroes Sond of Drums and Shakos. |

Oops, I'll remember that for next time! These acronyms are becoming pretty common, though. |

I was going to mention that too, e.g. speak English, or at least American man! ;-0 Thanks for the clarification. |

It's not the first time I've used the acronym SBH on TMP (or should that be The Miniatures Page?), nor am I the first to use it. It's the first time I've copped any flak for it. Perhaps I got someone on a bad day! |

Actually, I enjoyed your post; I did take umbrage somewhat that I should speak English, though -- in a hobby that swims in acronyms! |

You live in New Zealand do you not? I would view it as more of a hopeful, if somewhat far fetched, suggestion rather than a criticism. |

SBH and SDS are pretty well known on the SBH board but you cross-linked to several other boards where they might not be so well known. I don't pay much attention to SDS so I didn't recognize the acronym, but I play SBH which is why I'm looking at the thread. You might want to spell out the acronyms in the title (or first sentence) and then drop them later in the post to save the typing. As to your post- yes, gruesome death is pretty rare in my games but I imagine it's because I play with pretty well armored characters with basic combats of 3+. But fluky die rolls do make them happen from time to time. You're probably right about the lower combat scores contributing to the numbers of gruesome deaths that you saw. If you and your opponent also had more than the usual number of bad die rolls then the two factors together made your game as bloody as it was. You might try another game with higher combat values to see what happens? |

Tue, I cross-linked to the Ancient Battle Reports, which I wouldn't normally for SBH. The motive for lower stats is to make higher ones more exceptional. If Q4/C2 is an average fighter, then Q4/C3 is a veteran and anything better is exceptional. This would allow for more development in a campaign. If there are too many Q2/C5 figures it'd get a bit boring. We need to play a few more games to see how it all works. |

Surely those are initialisms. Acronyms need vowels don't they? : ) |

Darn. I was going to invite people to join my secret society, A.C.R.O.N.Y.M, a evil organisation aimed at world domination through mechanically or magically animated 28mm soldierbots/golems. But I may have to rethink my marketing
