I took as much advice and input as I could from you guys and Mad Robot Miniatures is beginning work on a line of 15mm minis, based on the "Avian Alien" idea. link I'm kinda cheesed out by the name I have for these right now. Does anyone have a more original idea? |

The heads look a lot like those on a vulture or a terror bird:

I love the non-earthly look of the weapon! Dan |

Weapon and overall proportions are great. After the big discussion topic, I think I'll pick up any good avians that are released. Personally, my preference is still to have a bit of a vestigial wing connecting the wrist to the hip. Something like the Gaoul from Titan AE: link Chris K. |

I for one welcome our new avian overlords. Names are easy. You can either go with the "this is what we call ourselves" (Keeraw, Harook, Athriax, etc, etc)or the, "This is what we call them" (Buzzards, Axe Beaks, Tweeties, Foghorns, etc) approach (or both). I love the concept and have to second Dan's comment on the weapons. An outstanding design. Humanoid to be sure, but definitely not a guy in a rubber suit. "Commander F'gorn Lerrgharn our forces seem to have been decimated!" "Fortunately sub-commander Shikhan L'tal, I say fortunately, I keep my troops numbered for just such an occasion" -Eli |

I'm iffy on the torso armor and the protruding lower ribcage, but the rest of the design is quite attractive. I rather like the names Harook and Athriax
they kind of roll off the tongue. |

Kalenki Named after the battle cries they make "Kal en Ki!" |

The Vulturons? The Paratees? Tucanians? this is a great design and I will buy these, maybe also do a big un, ogre sized. |

I'm iffy on the torso armor and the protruding lower ribcage I agree, the final sculpts will be hunched over more than the drawing. "Commander F'gorn Lerrgharn LOL, you may have something there Thanks to all for the ideas. If I use one of your suggestions, I'll send you a FREE squad to review. |

Mad Robot, I wish all the best to your new feathered fellows. I have to say I'm a bit tickled that the stink I raised is actually seems to have had some effect. -Eli |

Eli- The only way I can give folks what they want is if I know what they want. If I like the stink, I'll consider making it. If others like the stink, I'll really consider making it. So bring on the stink, Eli. Bring on the stink. -Steve p.s. "Harook" seems to be the frontrunner for a name. |
Umpapa | 02 Aug 2011 7:38 a.m. PST |
Would love them if they have at least some residual wings. And abut the name: something tweedling, twirping or chirping. Like Trlli-tri-pisk. |
Eli Arndt | 02 Aug 2011 7:53 a.m. PST |
Mad Robot, Harook was my first though and is good as it sounds like it could come from a bird. I won't stop making a stink. -Eli |

uhhh, you were tickled until you released a stink?
eeeeuwww :) ***** Mad Robot, best of luck and fortune with your projects! |

@28mm Man – Sorry it's a defense mechanism that sometimes slips when I'm overly excited. @Umpapa – I suggested Harook based on the look of the bird. Not a lot of avians built that way make tweety bird noises. I suppose alien birds might, but I guess I just defaulted to the sorts of noises that our big birds make. -Eli |

"Sorry it's a defense mechanism that sometimes slips when I'm overly excited" I hear 'ya. With my three arms, webbed fingers/toes, and my ink sack I know the end result of an occasional defense mechanism slip up. |

Plausible evolved tool-user; not so avian as to be definitely evolved from a Terran bird, but plausibly so. If I were designing their world, all the flying things would look more like bats just for laughs. Anyway, on my list. Somewhere down the road could we have some civilians for role playing and maybe a hostage rescue? |
Eli Arndt | 03 Aug 2011 5:05 p.m. PST |
Heck, market them as techs or crew at least and we can work that into civvies. Good stand-in for Jackals for those trying to do not-HALO armies too. -Eli |
