Over the years I've seen any number of figures and vehicles that seem just too large to be useful for miniature gaming. Some people seem to gush over "the new WG imperial-klown-killa tanks are a full 10 inches long and 25 pounds and fantastic
" but I've never seen the good in such large items. So how big is too big? I'd say 75mm (3 inches) |

It's not the size that's important but what you do with it. (Someone had to say it.) |

Well at once there were a few games using 1/6 scale GI Joes. I thought it was great but some manufactures at Fall In! had a cow over it. So I would say never. I have seen 25mm Pirate games with ships that were about 3 feet long as well. VR James Mattes |

I have seen 6" long 1/87th scale Soviet T-35 land battleships that were great for ROCO scale gaming. |

At some point it end up being terrain. |

I think it all depends on the game. I have no problem using 12" tall Godzilla figures in demos of Giant Monster Rampage. -Ken Radioactive Press |

40mm and up are too big for an enjoyable game to me. Then I really feel like I'm 10 again playing with toys. |

40mm Is the bomb! I have a huge (had) ACW Armies and could play Longstreets assault on the 2nd day of Gettysburg. Over 2000 figures and fits on a four large 12 foot tables. VR James Mattes |

Not too big
That will do nicely.

Like Kyote quoth, it depends! I'll pretty much do any scale, but it's all context specific. I have 15, 25 and 28mm Napoleonic armies all in various stages of not being painted but then I'll play Little Wars with 54mm stuff. Whenever I play that is
. Not very often

I agree with Ace that it does vary with scale, but regardless of scale I feel silly putting down anything bigger than 100mm (4 inches) that's not terrain. BTW CPT Jake, are those the Ogre macrotures that I've heard about? I always wanted a macroture NA combine tank, but I don't think they were ever actually offered for sale. |

Given I am currently working on a 2mm game then most things (esp Cpt Jakes 15mm Ogre) is tooooo large I downsized from 28/32mm to 15s last year but I did see a Songs Of Blades game run using 54mm plastics that I just love. As such – its a depends from me as well. Andrew Small site: 2mmwars.blogspot.com |

No, the macrotures were scaled to fit 28mm figures. Mine (his name is Mars) is scaled to fit with 15mm figures. Mars is just under 8 inches long (not counting his main battery) and 4 inches wide. Jake |
