I got my copy. Do you have yours?

Anyone played a game yet? Are you using a stock army from the book or do you have a DIY list? What are your impressions of the game?

Mine just shipped from Old Glory. Hope to have it in my hands somethime this week.

Got it, read it, haven't tried it yet. The stand-based approach (ala FoW) is an interesting change from most of the games out there, but other than that not too much that seemed really unusual. Slightly surprised that it doesn't stat out all the Blue Moon 15mm scifi figs (there's even a picture of a Vletan reaver, but no stats?) and the army builder section has me scratching my head – how many bases of troops or individual vehicles can you put in a unit? Is there a cost associated with larger units? Some odd gaps in the weapons too – infantry RPGs are as close as it comes to any kind of guided missile? Infantry mortars (assuming that's what Indirect Fire is supposed to be) are the only artillery?

Some of the units described in the army lists sound interesting, though. Hopefully they won't drag their feet about releasing them.

Got mine last week. Thersia was a big help.

In the rules they talk about using status markers for the activiated unit on the back of back, only there were not any.
There is a QRS, but it is tightly bound to the book. I would have liked to see a seperate sheet. :o<

Yeah, I'm hoping the rest of the units get produced (Orion Dropships please)and the things produced without representation get stated up (Come on Shivan Sisters and Aquans).

The rules read like they should play pretty fast while still offering commanders interesting choices in game.

The Mercantile collective list is a great list to use if you want to pull models from a number of lines, since they are free companies and very diverse by nature. If you enjoy the odd kitbash, or scratch building project, then the Arlocks are for you. They are raiders and scavengers now but, once upon a time, they were the genetically engineered technician class of a higher race. So, a great opportunity to create some unique and custom vehicles and mounts for your army is built into the canned background. "To the bitz box awaaaay".

A download of the counter sheet, QRS and perhaps an errata would be nice.

There are a number of editing "opportunities" which, if taken, could clear up some confusion in the nomenclature of the units/fire teams/squad/base, Regular Size/Standard Size (in vehicle classes) and so on. Consistent use of terminology would help. You can suss it out, but it takes more careful reading. In some places it is a bit like reading a technical manual which has been translated into English from another language.

Indirect fire can also come from some of the support vehicles.

As I understand it, the standard size for units runs from 3-6 bases worth and you are paying by the base in the case of DIY unit construction. Units may carry two support choices(Plasma gun, Rocket Launcher, etc.) but may only use one per firing action. So, you will have to decide if you want stonking huge numbers of troops or more infantry support weaponry on the table at the cost of larger (and harder to break)units.

FYI, base size is not mentioned, so I asked a designer, and the standard size for a "stand" of troops is a 50mm round base.

Anyway, I like it, warts and all. I just hope they will take another editorial pass, add more content to cover the other fantastic Blue Moon miniatures, and offer a PDF version once they have hammered out some dings.

Interesting news on the base size. I picked up 60mm round bases from Gail Force 9 at Historicon – wish I'd known. The rules talk about their being an official base available for purchase, but there is nothing on the Bluemoon site…

I've read the rules and they look like fun, but I can't help but feel they are getting off to a rocky start:
- 1 year gap between figure intro and rule intro
- typos abound in the rules and the fluff (mostly minor)
- No official forum has been created, or FAQ posted to mitigate the typos
- No intros to the figure line since last year
- As noted before, the rules mention an official base but it is not available.
- Neither Scott Pyle nor Joseph Dragonovich are talking about further GW1 development on their blogs. Scott seems to be focused on a new Goal System game – Blasters and Bulkheads – which looks to be a 15mm skirmish system (some Bluemoon figs shown).

As I said, the rules look fun, but we may have to hope for a sufficient player community (shoud it arise) to fill the gaps.

A unit with two support weapons can gain the benefit of both by issuing the Split Fire order to shoot at multiple targets, in which case each volley is resolved seperately. Not much of a drawback, if any, for large units there. Being bigger will also keep your support guns firing longer, since you have more bases of grunts to catch bullets for them.

Smnall units with multiple weapons can Split Fire as well, of course, but their smaller Concentrated Fire bonus will limit the effectiveness of the tactic.

I see your point BWS. Good new for horde armies,eh?

mxconnell, I really hope this is just a rocky start. I feel like the game shows promise. Pity about the inauspicious launch.

I get the feeling that the historical lines of 15mm are getting more love at the moment. This project of creating a game setting, and populating it with miniatures, seems to me like it could give a poor return on investment, compared to American Civil War or Napoleonic lines. I can see putting the funding where it can do the most for business but,I think the rules should be given an an errata page, or PDFs of pages to be replaced. The bases should either be made available, or the dimensions of the bases be added to the errata(both would be great)page of the rules. It would also be nice to have those counters mentioned and a printable QRS.

I don't even think they needed to add to the line, beyond the units called for in the army lists present in the book. A few more specifics (like min/max number of bases/vehicles in a unit)and the DIY army list section will serve as a very robust part of the game and allow other lines to take the pressure off of Blue Moon to expand beyond the 7 factions they have at the moment.
