Seems we have a new wave of future "future Russians" in 15mm. This is fun because I have been tinkering with ideas for future vehicles that use that very distinctive asthetic for a bit.

So far, none of my projects have ever gone beyond concept, but I thought it'd be fun to share some of those concepts here and invite folks to show theirs either as finished models or concept sketches, inspiring images, etc..

Always up for a bit of "pic-whoring" ;-)

Pig Iron's excellent Militia figures inspired our group into "alternative" 28mm Sci-fi a couple years ago. I bought a ton of the PI stuff and created a "future Soviet" faction – "FuturKom" – to suit. Of course the infantry need vehicles support and I'll post a few pics of that.

Awesome stuff there!

The last one looks like a broken link there!

Not sure why they didn't load. Exactly the same format and locations as the others.

Trying again:

They look great, you should make up one of each, just to see how they look in real life, I would use 1/72 plastic kits, then if they look good, make a small army.

I have the 1/72 T-34 half way done. I need a good hoverskirt.

Eli – I love the dropship concept.

I agree, the dropship is bang on the money!

Hardest part of converting the 1/72 helo to a 15mm dropship is resizing the cockpit windows and adding doors/ramps.

dropship concept is cool

I like that T-80 grav tank. I'd LOVE them in 15mm.

Wow. Another solid vote for the 1/72 helo conversion. Brilliant.
Maybe you don't need to mod the windows… Could the size of the cockpit be big enough suggest a 'flight-deck'?

Eli Arndt19 Jul 2011 9:04 a.m. PST

I suppose it could.

The trick is making it come across that way to the viewer. Making the windows smaller instantly rescales the vehicle.

If you want to convey the idea of a flight deck you have a harder time rescaling the vehicle without adding more details or doing a detailed flight deck inside the clear canopy.

If you like Neo-sov looking vehicles, how does this one grab you?

picture

Kevin Dallimore was writing a piece on quick painting jobs on Old Crow vehicles for a forthcoming Hammer's Slammers supplement in Mini Wargs and – although this one won't feature as is – it uses the turret from a Slammer's Blower on a body from a Sabre (which comes in a Grav variant as well – see below from their site:)

And in standard trim with tracks (looking more like an SF version of a Leopard, I think):

I have to say I think that – with the domed turret – it looks very Russian like to me!
