I'm thinking of using small scale figures on bases intended for 25/8mm.

Nothing derived from Warhammer or DBA please.

Currently, I'm thinking of digging out my old WRG George Gush rules for want of anything better. Can anyone suggest something else?

Thanks

RFCM's Regiment of Foote, with ground scales adapted for 25/28mm?

There is also DBR, 1644, and i think Impetus does ECW as well.

George Gush you are going back a way. I found a copy of Battle magazine 1977 in a local second hand book store. Interview subject was George.

For God, King and Country by CWG. Simple set of rules that woudl accomodate 28mm figures pretty easily. It is not only a rules set but an entire source book with historical information, scenarios and army lists. Worth picking up.

I like FoG-R too, and am still fond of Gush.

Very Civile Actions by the Perfect Captain is free and also has a campaign system, Tinker Fox.
I also like the Regiment of Foot rules.

I recommed:

Very Civile Actions from Perfect Captain
Wargamer's Guide To The English Civil War by William B Protz jr
For God King & Country, by Canadian Wargames Group

and especially:

File Leader by Pete Berry

Plenty to choose from – thanks everyone. I'm inspired to try ECW because my daily bike ride takes me round a battlefield site and I can't help imagining the action every time I'm there.

looks like I need to do some rules shopping.

Forlorn Hope – quite old-style rules – fair number of charts etc, so a matter of taste, but worth buying for all the extra information in there even if you never play them!

I like them for small-to-medium battles where you can appreciate the detail, for larger battles a faster-play set would be better in my mind.

Bloody Kingdom (Father Tilly wearing and ECW hat. It has a lot of interesting flavor and options.

Forlorn Hope is quite a good read and has some interesting army lists and force generators.
