I cant really say I "love" them but I will say I give "thanks" to them for spawning the Warhammer Ancients Historical rules, which are easy to understand and therefore play, which I therefore use.

Jakse37530 Jun 2011 8:41 p.m. PST

Goblin fanatics
Chaos dwarves
Slann
nostalgia for My first time
allies from almost any army list

Pictors Studio30 Jun 2011 8:45 p.m. PST

The figures are great.
The rules are easy to understand.

Overall I wouldn't say I love them, I prefer Warmaster and Warhammer 40K.

Neotacha30 Jun 2011 9:01 p.m. PST

Must it be either 'love' or 'hate'? Can there be no middle ground?

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER30 Jun 2011 9:24 p.m. PST

It's not DBMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

000 Triple Aught30 Jun 2011 9:25 p.m. PST

… I got into GW stuff early on when they first started up. Loved the "look" (books, scenery, etc.) and the fluff. Gameplay was cool too. Hooked me, and I've never been able to spit that 'ol hook out over all these years.

(I hate myself for loving WH)

28mmMan30 Jun 2011 9:34 p.m. PST

I like the world as a whole…basically Warhammer is made from popular settings, so it is easy enough to like.

1. chaos is a favorite, most of the races are fun enough
2. background fluff and stories
3. uh hmmm easy to grasp rules

Three is enough :)

chuck05 Fezian30 Jun 2011 9:46 p.m. PST

All things Skaven

Goblin Fanatics

It spwaned Mordheim

Vampire counts

The fluff is nice

ochoin deach30 Jun 2011 9:59 p.m. PST

I don't play it but I support *any* gaming.

We're all in this together, aren't we fellas?…..fellas?……fellas??

Andrew May130 Jun 2011 10:50 p.m. PST

I love it because it got me into gaming. Thank you GW. Also, nostalgia.

Berlichtingen30 Jun 2011 11:18 p.m. PST

I do like the background… even the whole chaos thing

Flat Beer and Cold Pizza30 Jun 2011 11:39 p.m. PST

It wasn't the first tabletop wargame I ever played, but it was the first I ever played with any consistency, with like minded people. I can acknowledge it for that at least.

Pedrobear30 Jun 2011 11:42 p.m. PST

Nice figures, nice fluff, plastic multi-poseable figures. Spawned a whole lot of other games and imitators.

Don't really care for the rules though.

nickinsomerset01 Jul 2011 1:49 a.m. PST

Meinzabier – zyoround!

Hang gliding dwarfs,

Tally Ho!

Parmenion01 Jul 2011 1:58 a.m. PST

Reasons for loving the ruleset…? Not sure I have any, I don't think I've ever really loved the rules, in any edition.

On the other hand, there are so many things I love about the associated background, imagery and fiction that I wouldn't know where to start listing.

evicatos01 Jul 2011 2:06 a.m. PST

Well it got me started

Edwulf01 Jul 2011 2:09 a.m. PST

There late 80s early 90s stuff gave me some good memories.

Bayushiseni01 Jul 2011 2:14 a.m. PST

It spawn Man'O'War.

Buff Orpington01 Jul 2011 3:07 a.m. PST

I could get a game almost anywhere

Dr Mathias Fezian01 Jul 2011 3:27 a.m. PST

The beautiful 3rd edition rule book.

Grand Dragon01 Jul 2011 3:30 a.m. PST

1) The related RPG is cool ( 1st edition ).
2) Great dwarf miniatures ! Actually , I don't think any other figure manufacturer makes dwarves as good as GW.
3) Great orc and goblin troop types !
4) Rules are simple enough and well known , so you can find an opponent.
5) Great support from the GW store network.

alien BLOODY HELL surfer01 Jul 2011 3:35 a.m. PST

some of the fluff (circa 3rd ed), some of the new figures in plastic (dark elf and lizardmen and Tomb Kings) thats about it.

syr876601 Jul 2011 5:26 a.m. PST

Loved (and continue to love) many of the figures. Lots of character and good humor besides. Also helped move the industry/hobby forward, including historicals (Perrys, Warlord, etc.). The niche games that grew from it (LOTOW/LOTHS/WAB/Necromunda/Mordheim) are all pretty fantastic.

Mooseworks801 Jul 2011 5:49 a.m. PST

Don't care for the rules; love the fiction and models.

mweaver01 Jul 2011 5:52 a.m. PST

It stimulated the hobby – introduced lots of additional people to wargaming and miniatures.

Tons of nice figures through the years.

Multi-part plastics! Love that approach to miniatures.

Manflesh01 Jul 2011 5:52 a.m. PST

Because you can almost guarantee a game at a club.

8th Ed rules are actually playable without me wanting to kill someone.

Scorpio01 Jul 2011 5:53 a.m. PST

Please include a link for 'I've never played the game.'

Sigwald01 Jul 2011 5:58 a.m. PST

..because I played it for way too many years not to like it.

PygmaelionAgain01 Jul 2011 6:23 a.m. PST

It gave me an excuse to buy extra figures instead of one or two.

"Well, I may as well get enough to field the largest unit of this type possible… "

It was a great enabler.

thosmoss01 Jul 2011 6:33 a.m. PST

Keeps the FLGS's open. Sure know my hobbies wouldn't cover it.

Jamesonsafari01 Jul 2011 6:43 a.m. PST

I forgot about the Skaven. I find them highly amusing and if I had to play WFB I'd probably do Skaven and Empire.

Regards01 Jul 2011 6:55 a.m. PST

The figures are very nice in most of the lines.
Terrain made for fantasy works well for historicals
Monthly magazine (White Dwarf) that supports the game.
Mix of large models (monsters) and regular troops.
Rules are relatively easy to understand.

Erik

Perris070701 Jul 2011 7:05 a.m. PST

Because they led to Warhammer Ancient Rules!

nazrat01 Jul 2011 7:08 a.m. PST

1) It got me into gaming.
2) The background is great.
3) The models are terrific.
4) The game is just plain FUN!

Alex Reed01 Jul 2011 7:39 a.m. PST

1. Very Exclusive
2. Childish
3. Cartoonish
4. Silly Characterizations
5. Because its there.

WarrenB01 Jul 2011 7:44 a.m. PST

Must it be either 'love' or 'hate'? Can there be no middle ground?

Think of it as "What I love about Warhammer is…"?

Meself, there are a number of things I still like, but the main hook is the background. Maybe somewhat generic and derived on the face of it, but it's developed enough to be reasonably unique, and very dense. There's a lot in the world to explore, and still more than enough space to stick in your own army/warband/character/campaign/battle/etc. fluff.

I thought the 2nd edition rules were pretty cool, plus the old compendium stuff (like Caleb Daark)

Farstar01 Jul 2011 8:21 a.m. PST

"Made from popular settings"… but still incorporating enough twists to be interesting. Not many other axe-wielding elves out there.

"Good Miniatures"… most of the time, which is above industry average.

"Easy to understand rules"… most of the time, which is above industry average.

"Skaven" Seconded. Other settings have ratmen, but rarely make them ratty enough.

"Easy to find opponents"… in season, anyway.

CeruLucifus01 Jul 2011 8:46 a.m. PST

I've never really loved any version of the game but I play it because:

1) I can always find opponents.

2) It seems like the closest thing to a table top battle game that is played around here.

3) The above said, the quality of miniatures and other gaming materials has always been excellent. Unfortunately you pay for what you get.

4) Customer service is top notch -- if you have anything like a defective product they always go the extra length to make you happy.

5) Good production quality books (content I'm not always so hot on).

ming3101 Jul 2011 8:50 a.m. PST

Goblin Fanatics , wolf riders , skaven.

SonofThor01 Jul 2011 8:52 a.m. PST

Mithmee01 Jul 2011 12:28 p.m. PST

I got my armies back in the early to mid 1990's so it was dirt cheap for me.

hwarang01 Jul 2011 12:29 p.m. PST

..because it gives me plenty of opportunities to be cynical. Plus it makes me feel glad I am over it.

Nuadha01 Jul 2011 7:59 p.m. PST

Heroquest and Advanced Heroquest got me in to the hobby.
Warhammer Quest is one of the best dungeon crawlers out there, a natural progression of Heroquest.
The plastic Skaven miniatures rock
The old-style Orcs and Goblins (I don't like the current ones as much)
Some of the character minis are really well done.

Timbo W02 Jul 2011 3:20 p.m. PST

because I had great fun digging the 1st Edn rules out and playing the Redwake River Valley scenario through when confined inside with a terrible case of man-flu.

Evil Wizard Psammon got warhammer-ed in the head while running away from Thelma the Fire Dragon if you want to know ;-).

Dunno about the other editions, never saw the point of buying them since I had the rules already.
